If you're planning a career in Accountancy, this popular home study A-level course in Accounting provides the perfect theoretical background.  But you will also find it invaluable if you're planning to study other business related subjects.

Key Aims

The course will give you:

  • an ability to apply accounting concepts, principles and practices;
  • an understanding of the role of accounting as an information system for monitoring, problem-solving and decision making, and the place of accounting in changing economic, social and technological environments;
  • an ability to examine and evaluate accounting policies and practices critically and analytically;
  • improved skills of communication, analysis, interpretation and presentation of both qualitative and quantitative accounting information.

Syllabus and Assessment

This course prepares you for the Cambridge (CIE) AlLevel syllabus 9706. The full A-level qualification comprises exams at AS and at A2 levels. We have chosen this syllabus as it is the one best suited to distance learners.

Assessment is by four written papers of which two at AS level are of 1 hour and 1 hour and 30 minutes, and two at A2 level are of 1 hour and two hours.

The Home Study Course

Your study text and your online materials file  will contain everything you need to start studying right away. The course is designed specifically to cover the above syllabus. So you can be confident that you will learn everything you need to achieve a high grade in the examination.

Your Tutor and your Assignments 

Your tutor is your online personal learning coach whom you can email at any time, and  to whom you can also talk via Skype.  He or she will give you detailed feedback on your learning assignments, and plenty of advice and encouragement throughout your course. 

You will have assignments with exam type questions to complete at regular intervals during the course. These are a key part of your learning process. They will prepare you thoroughly for your exam and will enable you and your tutor to gauge your progress throughout. Completing the course assignments will greatly increase your chances of a good exam grade.   

When you’ve finished each assignment, you email it to your tutor for assessment via your online file. Your tutor will provide you with rapid and detailed feedback, so you'll see your skills and knowledge developing month by month.

Course fees do NOT include examination fees, which are payable to the examination centre.
