If you want a thorough grounding in the skills required for today's rapidly changing business world, our A-level home study Business Studies course will provide it. Employers are always keen to employ individuals with a good understanding of business. You'll gain knowledge of all aspects of running a business and also the skills required to start your own.

Key Aims

The syllabus is intended to encourage you to:

  • Understand and appreciate the nature and scope of business, and the role of business in society;
  • Develop a critical understanding of organisations, the markets they serve and the process of adding value;
    This should involve consideration of the internal workings and management of organisations and, in
    particular, the process of decision-making in a dynamic external environment;
  • Be aware that business behaviour can be studied from the perspective of a range of stakeholders
    including customer, manager, creditor, owner/shareholder and employee;
  • Be aware of the economic, environmental, ethical, governmental, legal, social and technological issues
    associated with business activity;
  • Develop skills in: decision-making and problem solving in the light of evaluation; the quantification and management of information where appropriate; effective communication.

The emphasis will on the application of concepts and issues to the local context (i.e. your own country), where appropriate.

Syllabus and Assessment

This course will prepare you for the Edexcel Business Studies syllabus 8BS01/9BS01. We have chosen this syllabus as it is the one best suited to distance learners

Assessment is by two written papers of 1 hour and 15 minutes at AS level, and by two papers of 1 hour and 30 minutes hours at A2 level

The Home Study Course

Your study text and online learning file will contain everything you need to start studying right away. The course is designed specifically to cover the above syllabus. So you can be confident that you will learn everything you need to achieve a high grade in the examination.

Your Tutor and your Assignments 

Your tutor is your online personal learning coach whom you can email at any time, and  to whom you can also talk via Skype.  He or she will give you detailed feedback on your learning assignments, and plenty of advice and encouragement throughout your course. 

You will have assignments with exam type questions to complete at regular intervals during the course. These are a key part of your learning process. They will prepare you thoroughly for your exam and will enable you and your tutor to gauge your progress throughout. Completing the course assignments will greatly increase your chances of a good exam grade.   

When you’ve finished each assignment, you email it to your tutor for assessment via your online file. Your tutor will provide you with rapid and detailed feedback, so you'll see your skills and knowledge developing month by month.

  • All the required course books.  There are no extra charges for books, other than for postage outside the UK. 
  • Assessment and feedback on all assignments within 5 working days.
  • Access to your personal tutors via email and Skype.
  • Access to all online resources through WHOLE (Wolsey Hall Online Learning Environment)

Course fees do NOT include examination fees, which are payable to the examination centre.
