WHY SHOULD YOUR CHILD STUDY MATHS?

Mathematics equips your child with uniquely powerful ways to describe, analyse and change the world. It can stimulate moments of pleasure and satisfaction when they solve a problem for the first time, discover a more elegant solution, or notice hidden connections. Students who are functional in mathematics and financially capable are able to think independently in applied and abstract ways, and can reason, solve problems and assess risk.

The language of mathematics is international; the subject transcends cultural boundaries and its importance is universally recognised.

THE KEY STAGE 3 MATHS COURSE

Our brand new KS3 Maths homeschooling course has been written specifically to cover the KS3 Maths curriculum. The course has a practical approach packed with activities to make KS3 Maths motivating, engaging and fun for your child.   The course has been designed to be highly accessible for all abilities, with an emphasis on providing students with feedback on where they’re at and showing them how to progress. The course is both stimulating and engaging for your child and is designed to inspire in them a desire to learn more about Maths.

ASSESSMENT

At the end of each unit in the course there is an assignment for your child to complete and send to their tutor for marking and feedback.  A SATS level will be given for each assignment so that you are able to track your child’s progress in preparation for the next stage in their education.

COURSE CONTENT

The Key Stage 3 Maths course is divided into three main areas of study. Here is an overview of the topics and concepts your child will cover during the course:

NUMBER AND ALGEBRA

  •  rational numbers, their properties and their different representations
  •  rules of arithmetic applied to calculations and manipulations with rational numbers
  •  applications of ratio and proportion
  •  accuracy and rounding
  •  algebra as generalised arithmetic
  •  linear equations, formulae, expressions and identities
  •  analytical, graphical and numerical methods for solving equations
  •  polynomial graphs, sequences and functions.

 GEOMETRY AND MEASURES

  •   properties of 2D and 3D shapes constructions, loci and bearings
  •  Pythagoras’ theorem
  •  transformations similarity, including the use of scale points, lines and shapes in 2D coordinate systems
  •  units, compound measures and conversions
  •  perimeters, areas, surface areas and volumes.

 STATISTICS

  •  the handling data cycle
  •  presentation and analysis of grouped and ungrouped data, including time series and lines of best fit
  •  measures of central tendency and spread
  •  experimental and theoretical probabilities, including those based on equally likely outcomes.

WHAT PRIOR KNOWLEDGE DOES MY CHILD NEED?

The course assumes a level of mathematical and literacy ability appropriate for a child entering the Key Stage 3 of their education.

HOW LONG WILL THE COURSE TAKE?

We have designed the Key Stage 3 Maths course to be taken over TWO YEARS rather than the three years normally taken in a standard classroom setting. Our teaching methodology and systems allows us to provide an accelerated route for the majority of our students. They will enable your child, should you so wish, to progress to the next stage of their education a year earlier than they would have been able to in a traditional school.
