Our Support Team


Lee Wilcock

Lee's career in home study and distance learning began over thirty years ago following a degree in Philosophy and Psychology. During this time he has worked in a variety of roles in the the distance learning/online learning field including providing advice to government on flexible approaches to learning. He has worked with a wide range of organisations in both the public and private sector providing advice and guidance on how to implement effective distance learning programmes.

Now, as Principal of Wolsey Hall, he brings all this experience to bear to ensure that Wolsey Hall students get the best possible learning experience and that Wolsey Hall remains at the forefront in terms of innovation in home study. Lee homeschooled his own daughter through her GCSEs so he understands at first hand the issues involved in being a homeschooling parent.

Directors of Studies - UK

Angela Jones
Director of Studies

Angela has an Economics degree from Kingston University and worked in banking and recruitment before travelling around the world and teaching English as a foreign language. She then spent ten years living in San Francisco whilst working at the British Consulate. She returned to the UK with her three young children, settled in Oxford and worked in the alumni relations area for Oxford University. In her spare time she practises Ashtanga yoga and still has the travel bug, but is content with occasional skiing holidays and weekends away in European cities.

Peter Newell
Director of Studies

Peter took his law degree from the University of Oxford, qualified as a Barrister and then took an MBA at Columbia University in New York. He pioneered the launch of the world's first distance learning MBA in conjunction with the University of Warwick Business School and helped to develop Wolsey Hall as a major provider of management development courses to organisations such as British Airways, Her Majesty's Prison Service and Lloyds TSB. He and Lee Wilcock have worked closely together to ensure that Wolsey Hall continues to be the UK's leading quality provider of home learning, and at the cutting edge of technology development. His role as Director of Studies is to ensure that the best academic advice is given to prospective students and parents. He also, together with the Tutors and Student Progress Managers, has responsibility for the quality of course delivery.

Sarah Webb
Director of Studies

Sarah is a Director of Studies and the College's Safeguarding Officer. Her background in Early Years Education sparked a passion in children’s learning and development, and she loves the opportunities that Wolsey Hall can offer to students worldwide to continue their education in a way that meets their individual lifestyles and needs. When taking time out, Sarah enjoys quality time with her family, a good film or dining out when the opportunity arises.

Supervisors of Courses

Jane Marshall
Supervisor of Courses, Key Stage 3

Jane achieved a First Class Honours in Applied Physics, and then a PGCE from Southampton University. She was inspired by her own Physics teacher at school, and taught at the Girls’ Grammar School in Bournemouth amongst other Secondary Schools. She worked at an Independent Boarding School where a significant number of pupils required special needs teaching. It was here that she began to teach Mathematics as well as Physics. Jane took time out to raise her own family, but loves teaching so much that she returned to Homeschooling with Wolsey Hall Oxford! She is now also the Supervisor of Courses for Key Stage 3, and looks forward to working with these students.

Karem Roitman
Supervisor of Courses, IGCSE

Karem has a DPhil and an MPhil in Development Studies from Oxford University and has worked as a lecturer and a consultant in international development for the last 15 years. Her interests lie in development, education, gender and philosophy. She grew up in Ecuador and later migrated to the USA and then to the UK. As a child, Karem made lesson plans for her dolls, believing that if she could just teach them well, they would change the world. For her, education is the greatest force for human development and she is thrilled to help Wolsey Hall develop courses for students who wish to change the world.

Rachel Waring
Supervisor of Courses, A Level

Rachel studied English Language and Literature at Oxford University and has a Certificate in Further Education teaching. She has been teaching A-Level English for over twelve years. Her work in education has given her varied experience of both the pastoral and the academic. She has worked as a Learning Support Tutor, Student Services Officer and Course Leader in Further Education; a Residential Warden in an international boarding school; an A-Level Examiner; and Head of English and Faculty Leader in an independent sixth form college. She lives in Oxford and when she is not working she loves reading, writing and restoring old furniture. She is studying for a Diploma in Interior Design in her free time.

Online Tutoring Co-ordinator

Beverley Vivian
Online Tutoring Co-ordinator

Beverley earned her B.Sc from Sheffield University, where she studied maths and geology, before taking a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. She has extensive teaching experience and has also worked in computer support, training people to use computer software systems, and for the National Childbirth Trust, where she trained in counselling and led parenting classes for adults. Since returning to teaching Beverley has worked with students of all ages, in classes and one-to-one, as well as becoming a GCSE and A level assessor for one of the major examination boards. In addition to her work as Online Tutoring Co-ordinator, Beverley is also a Wolsey Hall maths tutor.

Student Progress Managers

Ana Baynton
Student Progress Manager

Ana holds a Master’s degree in Occupational and Organisational Psychology from the University of Surrey and has a Diploma in Human Resource Management. Her experience ranges from delivering training and recruitment within the workplace, to providing special educational needs learning support in both Primary and Secondary school settings. She also has some formal training in counselling skills. As a mother of two young boys, she can often be found racing around a muddy park or field. However, when given the opportunity to relax she enjoys reading, swimming, visiting places of historical interest and indulging in the occasional traditional afternoon tea.

Sarah Doberska
Student Progress Manager

Sarah studied Modern Languages at the University of Oxford, and during her degree course she spent a year teaching English at the University of Pavia in Italy. Since graduating in 2004 she has worked in a variety of event management and communications roles, and is currently also a freelance editor and copywriter. Sarah lives in Oxford with her husband and two young daughters, and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.

Pat Edwards
Student Progress Manager

Pat has been a Student Support Manager with Wolsey Hall for more years than she cares to remember! She has supported many hundreds of students to success in their courses over that time. With the rest of the Course Management team she reviews student progress on a fortnightly basis and is always on hand to answer queries from students by telephone or email.

Cathe Heron
Student Progress Manager

Cathe worked as a Learning Support and Teaching Assistant in Oxford schools for many years, where she covered many roles but primarily supported children with Special Educational Needs. She completed a BSc(Hons) degree in Social Sciences via distance learning with the Open University and has recently moved to Dorset with her family. Any free time is spent tending to a growing menagerie of animals and other outdoor projects.

Michelle Mahoney
Learning Support Manager

Michelle holds a Post-graduate Diploma in Dyslexia from the University of York. Michelle's role as Learning Support Manager is to provide help and guidance to students with a variety of learning difficulties including Dyslexia and Aspergers Syndrome.

Tina Nourse
Student Progress Manager

Tina worked as a Learning Support and Teaching Assistant before moving into educational publishing where she promoted the use of technology and software in Primary and Secondary schools. Tina works with the rest of the course management team to review student progress and answer any queries from both students and parents. When she’s not working Tina enjoys cooking and spending time with family and friends.

Mandy O'Sullivan
Student Progress Manager

Mandy O’Sullivan is a mother of 4 children ranging from 5 years old to 14. She holds a degree in English literature and Language and a second degree in Psychology, specialising in child development. As a routine volunteer within a primary school and as a keen advocate of homework for her own children, she can empathise with the rigour children need to apply to their education. In her spare time she is usually found with her nose in a book or de-stressing with yoga or walking their very energetic Yorkshire Terrier.

Tamara Onslow
Student Progress Manager

Tamara graduated from Durham University with a degree in Geography. She worked in financial marketing in the City of London before moving to Hampshire, where she has done volunteer work for hospitals, schools and charities. Tamara lives with her 4 teenage children and 2 dogs (whippets) in the New Forest. She loves cooking, swimming, walking, sailing and cycling, although not all on the same day!

Michaela Pignotti
Student Progress Manager

Michaela graduated in MA English-Language & Linguistics from the University of Aberdeen in 2003 and has been working within the administrative sector in Higher Education for the past 10 years. Michaela recently relocated to Oxford with her husband and young child. In her spare time Michaela enjoys postcrossing, writing, travelling and visiting museums.

Marketing, Communications, and IT

Amy Hemingway
Brand & Communications Manager

Amy graduated with an MSt in Theology from the University of Oxford. She tutored in Philosophy/ Divinity at GCSE and AL. She worked in International Marketing for Oxford Archaeology for 7 yrs. As Brand Manager, Amy travels between Southern Africa and the UK. She creates marketing material and manages our web and social media pages. As an artist herself she organises creative competitions for our student community. She helps to keep students, staff and parents in touch, and shares interesting stories on our blog. She encourages new and exciting students from all over the world!

Paul Heron
Online Learning System Administrator

Paul studied psychology at the Universities of Bristol (BSc) and Sussex (MA). He has lived in Oxford for the last 15 years supporting academic research at the University of Oxford, specialising in the design and analysis of projects exploring the working lives of public sector workers. When not updating the content on Wolsey Hall’s online learning system, Paul can be found helping out on local countryside and conservation projects.

Lynne Stacey
Marketing Manager

An Oxford University Chemistry graduate, Lynne has many years marketing experience gained from working for a number of blue chip companies including Vodafone and Dunlop as well as a diverse range of freelance clients. In recent years Lynne has made Pay-per-Click advertising one of her specialist areas and enjoys the mental challenge of trying to keep up with Google. In her spare time Lynne likes to keep fit, do battle with the constant onslaught of weeds in her garden and provide a taxi service to her three boys.

Martha Zumack
Canvas Co-ordinator

Martha holds a BA (Hons) in English Literature from John Brown University in the United States, but veered toward a more technical career shortly thereafter. Previous roles include data analyst and IT support. She is responsible for improving the student experience on Canvas in addition to providing technical support. If you have trouble getting something done on Canvas, she's the one to tell! In her spare time, she participates in amateur theatre, travels when possible, and seeks to always keep learning.


Fenella Dernie
Accounts Manager

Fenella is an experienced accountant, having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989, and worked with Spicer and Pegler (later Deloitte and Touche) until 1999. More recently she has been running her own accounts management and bookkeeping firm, Crosslanes Associates, from near Swindon. She has three young boys who, with her husband, are keen supporters of Swindon Town FC. Fenella herself is happy to let them get on with it.

Stacey Lovell
Assistant Accounts Manager

Stacey has many years of experience as an Accounting Technician. She has worked in a variety of organisations including firms of solicitors and the accounting departments of schools. Stacey currently lives in Oxford with her husband and two young children, and enjoys spending her free time with family and friends.

Exams Officers

Nuha Lami
Exams Officer (International)

Nuha has a degree in Business Management and, prior to joining Wolsey Hall Oxford, lectured in Business and Economics. She has also worked in Early Years Learning and Student Support, working closely with students requiring extra exam provision at another college in Oxford. Nuha lives in North Oxford and has two daughters, both of whom are currently at university. In her spare time she enjoys interior design and aerobics.

Nicky Murray
Exams Officer (UK)

Nicky has worked in Exams for a number of years, and for the last 9 years has been the Exams Officer at a high performing, secondary school in Oxford and has extensive knowledge of the Exams system. Her free time is taken up with her family and she has three daughters and a grandson. She also enjoys reading and socialising with friends. She is looking forward to helping students to have a successful experience whilst preparing for and taking their exams.
