Why Study Cambridge IGCSE German

Studies have found that speaking a second language, such as German, is a great asset to the cognitive process. The brains of bilingual people operate differently than those of single language speakers, and these differences offer a number of benefits including:

  • Improved listening skills since the brain has to work harder to distinguish different types of sounds
  • A stronger working memory than those speaking only one language. This helps with mental calculation, reading and other vital skills
  • The ability to switch from one task to another more quickly
  • Being better at your first language. It is said that you can never understand one language until you understand at least two

These are all quite apart from the other benefits of our Cambridge IGCSE German homeschooling course: enabling your child to immerse themselves in another culture, and of seeing their own culture from the perspective of another.

Meet Our IGCSE German Tutors

Cathy Hattam, Homeschooling Parent, UK

I’m so chuffed that my daughter Jessie has done so well in her IGCSE German exam, especially as the other people taking the exam and the exam centre were native German speakers! She also did very well in her Maths IGCSE. It has been amazing to be able to study for exams out of school...very liberating. The Tutors and the admin team are all wonderful. Big thankyou to Wolsey Hall Oxford for all your help!
