I became an ICT and Computing teacher quite by chance when the Computer Studies teacher in the school I was working in (as an English teacher) resigned unexpectedly. Having just left university and having taken a year of Computer Science in my degree, I was the only person on the staff with even a vague idea of how to teach computing.

Over the years I have taught Primary school English and Music; Secondary School English, Guidance (Life Skills), Global Perspectives; and Theory of Knowledge at IB Diploma Level. I have even run a Pre-school and gained Pre-school qualifications along the way. But I have most enjoyed teaching ICT and Computer Science and after upgrading my Computing and IT qualifications, retook my PGCE to qualify as a Computer Applications Technology teacher in South Africa.

I am South African born and was brought up in Cape Town and attended the University of Cape Town where I graduated with a BA (Social Sciences) in Psychology. After graduating I married Neil and began travelling and teaching around our lovely country and then across the world. We spent a couple of years in the UK and then returned to the wine districts outside of Cape Town for a few years. Then the travel bug hit again and Swaziland became our home for 9 years.

We then lived in Malaysia, Dubai and Kenya where I was Deputy Head and Director of ICT at a British international school. We have recently moved back to a village just outside of Cape Town with our three daughters (Chloe, Frances and Sophie) who we homeschool. I work as an online teacher, professional development trainer and educational consultant. I also develop curriculum materials for various companies.

When I’m not in front of my computer I enjoy cooking and I also love growing my own food. Bird watching is another hobby and my garden is a great place to do that as we have a variety of wild birds in our area ranging from the majestic Fish Eagle, through the very noisy Hadeda Ibis and to some very tiny Swee Waxbills.
