I’ve always enjoyed learning and teaching languages, thanks to spending my teenage years travelling through Europe and participating in many exchange programmes. I began learning French and German when I started school, and little was I to know then what a difference it would make to my life.
I can speak German, French and Spanish. I picked up Spanish when I started university in Leeds, a great city where I still live. As part of my degree course, I spent a year studying in the Lake Constance area of Germany, a spectacular part of Germany I encourage you to visit. I also worked part-time, which was great for building up my speaking skills. This experience ignited my passion for sharing my love of German, and so I became a languages teacher.
I have taught in secondary schools in the West Yorkshire area for almost 20 years. I was Head of Department for six of those years. During my time as a teacher, I ran trips abroad to France and Germany which was a wonderful experience. For the last few years, I’ve been working on projects to do with effective teaching in languages, and I have trained many teachers, both in the UK and internationally. I am also involved in examining work. I have now been involved in the field of education for almost 30 years. As well as my PGCE, I hold a Masters in Online and Distance Education.
In my spare time, I enjoy swimming and reading, not at the same time of course.
I am delighted to be a Tutor for Wolsey Hall Oxford, and it’s all because of those early years that I am here to share my passion for languages.
