I developed my love of languages while at secondary school in Perpignan, in the South of France, where I had the most inspiring English teacher. I attended University also in Perpignan, where I studied for a BA in English, a BA in French (lettres modernes) with Spanish and a Diploma in International tourism.

I then spent a year in the UK as a French assistant at Whitgift School in Croydon, where I also met my English husband-to-be. I thoroughly enjoyed tutoring students and helping to prepare them for university application. A PGCE with the Open University followed, combined with several years of experience in both maintained and independent schools. I then headed back to sunny South West France with my young family for a new adventure.

Toulouse, known as “La Ville rose” because of the red brick buildings, became my home. I opened my own Language tutoring and relocation agency delivering language tuition to adults and children. Tutoring students who were homeschooled, mainly due to work demands in a global market place, was a very rewarding experience. The ‘no classroom’ boundaries meant the learning opportunities were endless and much more enjoyable.

I have kept in touch with many of my ‘alumni’, now all successful in their adult careers. Their learning experience taught them so many things that students do not always glean at school. To quote John Holt: “Children learn from anything and everything they see. They learn wherever they are, not just in special learning places.” ― John Holt, Learning All The Time.

My husband and I then returned to work in UK schools for a few years, before heading overseas again. I am currently Head of French in an international school near Lausanne in Switzerland.

My youngest daughter is now homeschooled and loving it; our eldest also experiencing homeschooling some years earlier, which has put her in good stead for her current degree studies, via distance learning.

I am a passionate believer that students should study at their own pace and enjoy their learning. This is why I am looking forward to helping and working with you on your French language progression here at Wolsey Hall!
