I took my English degree at Brunel University and then qualified as a teacher of English with a PGCE together with QTS (Qualifited Teacher Status) from the University of Bath.
I began teaching in 2006 and have taught GCSE English and English Literature in secondary schools in Marlborough, Salisbury and East London. As well as teaching students aged 11-18, I have also taught English and Basic Numeracy to unemployed adults in Croydon, South London.
Since 2011, I have been working as an online English tutor; tutoring school students and professionals worldwide. I love teaching students from diverse backgrounds. In my online teaching roles, I teach a range of subjects and topics: English Language and Literature, conversational English, Business English, and test preparation for IELTS and TOEFL.
In addition to this, I also tutor IGCSE/ GCSE English Language and Literature students face-to-face as well as those that are re-sitting exams. I have been working as an examiner (GCSE English Language & Literature) since 2015. I thoroughly enjoy being involved in the examination process and feel that it has helped to inform my own teaching, and has enabled me to better prepare students for their final IGCSE/ GCSE examinations.
I love travelling across the globe and visiting lots of tropical locations, which includes spending time at my holiday home in Kerala, India. I live near the Peak District, so I am lucky enough to go on some very picturesque walks in my spare time. I also like to spend time in my garden and grow a range of vegetables, herbs and flowers.
I am very structured in my approach to teaching but I always like to add an element of fun to bring the topics to life. I create a relaxed environment so that my students can confidently ask questions and become active learners. I look forward to working with you in the same way.
