After growing up in the Peak District area of England, near Sheffield, I gained my first degree in Psychology from the University of Wales. I then taught English as a Foreign Language in Italy, before moving to London to complete my PGCE in 1999 at Roehampton University.
I have taught in Primary schools in London and Kent ever since, alongside raising my two children. My first additional responsibility was that of Science Subject Leader – a role I held for several years. Science is a subject which reflects children’s natural curiosity and it is wonderfully rewarding to see the excitement of the children when they discover more about the world for the first time. I also enjoy teaching Maths and English, as success in these areas can underpin the rest of a child’s education and bring confidence.
More recently, I specialised in working with pupils with additional needs, finally working as a SENCO across two schools in London. In this role I have gained experience in supporting a wide range of special needs including Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia and other learning difficulties. In 2017 I gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia) from University College London and have been able to apply my understanding of what can help pupils with literacy difficulties to my work with pupils.
My wide range of experience and knowledge in the fields of both mainstream and special education means that I am able to offer a wealth of advice to students to help them achieve successful outcomes in their studies.
Outside of work, I love hill walking, growing flowers and vegetables and I keep a range of pets from bantam hens to tropical fish, all of which I enjoy with my family. I am happy to be able to share my skills and experience with the students at Wolsey Hall.
