I’m passionate about teaching English and I’ve been teaching for over 7 years in schools in both Bristol and Somerset. My main teaching subject is English but I also teach Media and Film Studies. I love all types of storytelling, so I like to spend my free time reading and visiting theatres and cinemas. I enjoy the escapism; the ability to travel to any time or place in history – if only in my imagination!
I always like to encourage my pupils to read as much as possible and I like to share book recommendations. I run book groups at my school and own far too many of them. I’ll read almost anything but have an interest in gothic literature and Thomas Hardy in particular.
I have a degree in Psychology from the University of Bath but as I loved English so much, I also studied for a conversion degree in English alongside my PGCE. I am also an examiner and mark GCSE papers for both English Language and Literature.
I grew up in Bristol and love city life but I equally like relaxing in the countryside when the UK weather permits! I love animals and always have pets. I also like to travel when I can to experience new cultures and visit historical buildings, especially cathedrals.
Learning should be an enjoyable process and I like to continue my own studies as well. I have studied English Literature at a Cambridge University Summer school. Recently, I have studied creative writing and courses in Egyptology and I hope to study for my Masters degree in the future.
I look forward very much to working with you and sharing my passion for the language and its literature.
