It’s the 3rd of March and the 7th anniversary of ‘National Homeschool Day’ in the Philippines. At Wolsey Hall Oxford we have a growing number of students who are homeschooling in the Philippines and we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate alongside them.
What is National Homeschool Day?
National Homeschool Day was first recognised on the 3rd of March 2017 when Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan filed Resolution 308 expressing the Senate’s full support in the celebration of the first National Homeschool Day.

Since 2017 the homeschool movement in the Philippines has grown in leaps and bounds. The most recent statistics (compiled pre-Covid) showed 12000 students homeschooling. It is highly likely that this number has increased considerably since then.
Every year, homeschoolers gather around the country to celebrate. Events include nature walks, homeschool talks, overnight camps, and plenty of socialising with other homeschooling families. The Philippines’ take on homeschooling is truly refreshing, Article 14, Section 2 (4) of the 1987 Constitution states: “The state shall encourage nonformal, indigenous learning systems, self-learning, independent and out-of-school study programs”
What Wolsey Hall families have to say about homeschooling in the Philippines?
Wolsey Hall Oxford’s students in the Philippines are a mix of both Filipino and expat children at all levels from elementary (Primary) through junior high school (Lower Secondary) and into senior high school courses (IGCSE and A levels).
We find that many of our families turn to homeschooling in order to provide a consistent, challenging, and inspiring curriculum for their children. They also appreciate the flexibility of our courses and the fact that children are able to learn at their own pace. In celebration of National Homeschool Day we reached out to our families in the Philippines to find out what they enjoy most about homeschooling;

“We have a very big homeschooling community here in the Philippines, one of the Facebook groups that I am in – Homeschoolers of the Philippines caters to all home-educated Filipino and Expat children.
