Poetry Showcase – Miriam Thwaites
Before I take my leave to go,
To travel to a grey world in polluted lands,
I beg to stay one moment more,
One moment in this lonely sea
Of grass and swaying trees.
Your house is folded in the darkened wood
And stands by the rushing glen
The house that watched words beat her down
While no one else knew their strength,
The house that saw quiet tears
Roll down weathered cheeks
And time grow sick with waiting.
