Emma Warburton

BMus, PGCE, QTS

As a young child I was encouraged by my parents to follow my love of Music and by my teenage years I was a fully-fledged member of my local orchestra in Canterbury, the Kent County Youth Orchestra and the Kent Youth Wind Orchestra. I was accepted into the prestigious European Union Youth Orchestra by the time I was in the fourth year of study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama where I obtained a BMus and a Diploma in orchestral training.

I played the oboe and cor-anglais professionally for a number of years before getting married and having two wonderful children. I went on to re-train as a Kindergarten Music Teacher. I started my teacher training in 2016 and qualified with QTS and a PGCE by July 2017. I have taught EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 as a class teacher and all years from EYFS to Year 6 as a Music teacher. I have developed a particular love of teaching Maths since starting my class teaching career for which I am now Subject Leader along with Music, Science, Computing and Art.

During the lockdown in 2020 I began my new online teaching career! It became a whole new way of teaching and learning for the children in my class, and I found it was something I really enjoyed. To have such close relationships with parents who were so committed to educating their children to the best of their ability was a joy and it gave me such a valuable insight into the home learning environment. I am delighted to be a tutor at Wolsey Hall and am really looking forward to getting to know children and their families from around the globe! I hope to be able to provide families with the benefit of my experience in order to inspire, engage and encourage a new generation of learners!

I have two children of my own, age 17 and 20, who spent a year of their young lives in the Pyrenees in France homeschooling half way up a mountain! I can honestly say it was one of the best and informative years of our lives! When I’m not teaching, I love to read, sing, walk by the sea and spend quality time with my family.
