Linda Hinds

BSc, PGCE

After graduating from university, I spent quite some time travelling around the world before deciding what I wanted to do. I knew I needed something creative and challenging and finally figured out that teaching would achieve those aims. I have been teaching for over 20 years now, and I love the variety it brings. I trained in the UK and, over the years, have taught in secondary schools and FE colleges in both the UK and Australia. I have been a teacher, a pastoral Tutor, a head of department and an assistant headteacher, teaching Mathematics and Further Mathematics to all ages from 11 to 90.

I believe that Maths is an amazing subject, but unfortunately, too many students are let down in their education and do not see it in a positive light. I am proud to be someone who helps to change student perceptions of Maths. Maths should be enjoyed by all. Without enjoyment, we cannot expect to achieve high standards. In my teaching, I use a combination of strategies to ensure students make good progress. The use of clear explanations and questioning that challenges students thinking provides a good depth of understanding. I set clear targets, and caring feedback ensures that learners know what they need to do to improve. It is such a privilege to be part of a young person’s journey to reach their goals, whether that is college, university or employment.

When I am not teaching, I can usually be found in the garden room – sewing. I love to make my own clothes and am on a self-imposed shopping ban with the aim of achieving a 100% self-made wardrobe.

I’m delighted to be a Tutor at Wolsey Hall and to have the opportunity of helping you achieve success in Maths.
