My first experience of teaching was in my gap year which I spent in a rural Ugandan village teaching English in a Primary School. Upon my return, I studied New Media Production at Bournemouth University, which gave me a wide range of Computing and multimedia skills. I went on to work in London as a computer developer, creating educational software in Maths and Science. I really enjoyed this, but I wanted to pursue teaching, so I did my PGCE at The Institute of Education.
For the past 15 years, teaching has provided me with a challenging, exciting and rewarding role! Working with children is such a privilege, especially when you witness them being inspired by learning, and developing enquiring minds.
With my background in Computing, this subject is still my passion. I have been the subject lead for Computing for many years and love to prepare children for the digital opportunities of the twenty-first century. It is wonderful to see how quickly children pick up using software and technology, how creative they can be, and how much fun they can have with it! I enjoy teaching subjects across the curriculum, in particular Maths and Science. Science teaches us to question and make sense of things, and gives us a skill we can hold onto for life. Maths is a subject full of wonder and helps us to develop problem-solving skills and to look for solutions.
My aim, as a Tutor, is to encourage children to be confident, enquiring, independent learners, ready to take on new ideas and challenges. I hope that by working in partnership with me, pupils and their families will feel supported and secure.
I love the outdoors and exploring the beautiful county of Norfolk, where I live. Running is a big part of my life, and I am a run leader for my local group. I have two children who keep me on my toes and ensure that there is never a dull moment!
