Business is a fascinating and relevant subject with strong links to society and to other subjects in the curriculum such as Economics. I have over 25 years’ experience of teaching Business in secondary schools from GCSE to A level. As a result, I’ve been able to inspire many of my students to follow a business career.

My own career has embraced both teaching and retailing. I studied Geography at Exeter University, followed by a teaching qualification. But after two years of teaching Geography, I decided I wanted more life experience and to change my career and focus on retailing.

I worked my way from sales assistant in a department store, to supervisor at Marks and Spencer and then manager of two Body Shops in Croydon, where my turnover was £1.4 million. This allowed me to experience work within private and public sector organisations and franchise operations.

Finally, I worked for Eurotunnel as the retail manager and buyer during the building of the Channel Tunnel. From a business perspective, this allowed me to develop my skills as a retailer and be part of the development of a significant infrastructure project linking Great Britain to France.

While at Eurotunnel, I studied for and passed a Diploma in Management Studies and an Institute of Marketing Diploma with distinction. This enabled me to return to teaching and to teach Business.

As a result I’ve been able to use my experience to make my Business lessons more relevant and interesting. My particular expertise was in teaching A level Business, and my students’ results were always some of the best in the school. Many of my students have moved on to university to study Business-related subjects or started work with a good grounding in Business theory and practice.

In my spare time I’m a qualified Ballroom and Latin American dancing teacher and I teach classes in the local community. Dance is a great way to keep fit and to meet new people, and I enjoy providing a relaxed environment where people can have fun and learn a new skill. I also enjoy travelling to France as I’m lucky enough to live close to the Eurotunnel terminal and can arrive in Calais within 35 minutes!

I look forward to working with you and helping you achieve your full potential in this exciting subject.
