Home education in India

Sanjana’s story

Sanjana Lakkineni has been extremely successful studying via home education with Wolsey Hall in India. Recently Sanjana took her AS level exams following on from studying her IGCSEs via home learning.

“I am currently doing my A levels. I have chosen homeschooling, instead of regular schooling, because I have already decided on my future career – I want to be a Social Scientist – and I want to be able to focus on my area of interest without being distracted by the demands of the conventional school curriculum.”

Exam success

“Homeschooling, supported by Wolsey Hall Oxford, also gives me the flexibility to pursue some of my other interests like reading, travelling and sports. I want to write and publish articles in magazines and journals. I have already made a documentary film and plan to make more films in the future.”

Her outstanding achievements with Wolsey Hall to date include: IGCSE English – A; IGCSE History – A*; IGCSE Maths – A*; AS level Psychology – A (and IGCSE French – A* and Economics – A with an Indian school).

Home education in India has allowed Sanjana the flexibility to use her time to undertake numerous projects. One of these includes a documentary she made: Mortgaged Nations

Major award winner

India’s leading newspaper, The Times of India, published an article showcasing the prestigious scholarship it awarded to Sanjana.

“I am the national topper in the Times of India Scholarship test and the newspaper is going to sponsor my trip with the value of INR 200,000 to the Cornell University, USA, for an orientation course. I love visiting great universities whenever I travel abroad.”

“I am a sports buff – I love both playing and watching sports. I am an ardent fan of the Indian Cricket Team. The first thing I bought for myself using my scholarship money is an Indian Cricket Team jersey.”

The future

“I am now seeking admission to the a UK University”

Sanjana is using our University Advice Service for help with her application through UCAS.

“The choice of mine is not a career oriented one, because, the choices and life chances available to a youngster like me growing up in the impoverished, hunger afflicted Indian subcontinent are few. As Malala Yousafzai famously said, “In our part of the world, there are only two options available to a person – you can either suffer and die in silence or choose to speak up…”
