About our school

Personalised, pupil-led learning where your child comes first

At Wolsey Hall Oxford, we believe every child deserves an education that’s as unique as they are.

The problem is, many families like yours feel trapped by the synchronous, ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach that other traditional and online schools take to learning. Like you’re lost in a dark maze, and can only see one educational path ahead of you: one where students are taught in the same physical or virtual classroom, with the same resources, and at the same times – day in, day out.

But what about when this single, rigid route isn’t right for your family? What if you can’t get your child out of bed in the morning because they’re scared about being bullied, keeping up with the rest of the class, or being around other students in a crowded classroom all day? Perhaps they dream of becoming an elite athlete, actor or dancer, but can’t put in the training hours because they have to stick to a strict school timetable? Or maybe you travel around a lot or have to relocate frequently for work, and you’re concerned about them falling behind due to big gaps in their studies?

Helping your child do more, when mainstream school won’t do.

We have families from all over the world coming to us because they’re facing these exact challenges, and more. That’s why, unlike other online learning providers, we haven’t just taken traditional school and made it digital. Instead, we’ve pioneered a whole new style of studying that adapts to our students – where they can choose what, how, when and where they learn, from Primary (age 4) to A Level (age 18). Shining a light on all the personalised educational pathways open to our families, so they can see which route will give their child the best start.

Our students can study for their exams on a sailboat in the middle of the sea. Train for a couple of hours in the morning, and be back home to finish an assignment by lunchtime. Watch videos and presentations instead of just reading through textbooks. Work in the evening if they’re a night owl, and sleep in longer the next day. Make the most of their numeracy talents by studying Maths at Year 9 level, whilst enrolling in Year 7 Science.

It’s this pupil-led, asynchronous approach to learning that gives our students the freedom to go beyond restrictive mainstream study methods when they need something different – so that they can learn without limits, achieve their ambitions, and unleash their full potential.

Synchronous vs asynchronous learning

It’s our unrivalled flexibility that means our students don’t have to be in live lessons at set times, stick to strict schedules, or cope with the distractions of crowded classrooms – whilst still benefiting from the structure and support of a world-class British education. We’re proud of the opportunities this gives our students to develop into confident, happy, independent learners, who can thrive both in their studies and in life after education.

Our asynchronous learning approach opens up possibilities for our students to pursue their passions, explore the world around them, look after their wellbeing, and progress through their studies at a pace that’s right for them. It gives them the freedom to fit their learning around their life – rather than the other way around. You can see how our hyper-personalised approach compares with the synchronous approach of other schools below:

Synchronous learning (other schools)
Asynchronous learning (Wolsey Hall Oxford)
Students are directed in their learning by teachers who share information, guide activities and set tasks. Students self-direct their learning, choosing from a wide range of multimedia learning materials with assignment feedback from experienced, UK-qualified Tutors.
Students are taught in classrooms with up to 30+ other pupils. Students can study independently from home, or wherever they are in the world.
Students attend live lessons to a set timetable, often with the same start and finish times every day. Students can set their own schedule so they can prioritise studying when it works for them.
