About our school
Personalised, pupil-led learning where your child comes first
At Wolsey Hall Oxford, we believe every child deserves an education that’s as unique as they are.
The problem is, many families like yours feel trapped by the synchronous, ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach that other traditional and online schools take to learning. Like you’re lost in a dark maze, and can only see one educational path ahead of you: one where students are taught in the same physical or virtual classroom, with the same resources, and at the same times – day in, day out.
But what about when this single, rigid route isn’t right for your family? What if you can’t get your child out of bed in the morning because they’re scared about being bullied, keeping up with the rest of the class, or being around other students in a crowded classroom all day? Perhaps they dream of becoming an elite athlete, actor or dancer, but can’t put in the training hours because they have to stick to a strict school timetable? Or maybe you travel around a lot or have to relocate frequently for work, and you’re concerned about them falling behind due to big gaps in their studies?

Helping your child do more, when mainstream school won’t do.
We have families from all over the world coming to us because they’re facing these exact challenges, and more. That’s why, unlike other online learning providers, we haven’t just taken traditional school and made it digital. Instead, we’ve pioneered a whole new style of studying that adapts to our students – where they can choose what, how, when and where they learn, from Primary (age 4) to A Level (age 18). Shining a light on all the personalised educational pathways open to our families, so they can see which route will give their child the best start.
Our students can study for their exams on a sailboat in the middle of the sea. Train for a couple of hours in the morning, and be back home to finish an assignment by lunchtime. Watch videos and presentations instead of just reading through textbooks. Work in the evening if they’re a night owl, and sleep in longer the next day. Make the most of their numeracy talents by studying Maths at Year 9 level, whilst enrolling in Year 7 Science.
It’s this pupil-led, asynchronous approach to learning that gives our students the freedom to go beyond restrictive mainstream study methods when they need something different – so that they can learn without limits, achieve their ambitions, and unleash their full potential.
Synchronous vs asynchronous learning
It’s our unrivalled flexibility that means our students don’t have to be in live lessons at set times, stick to strict schedules, or cope with the distractions of crowded classrooms – whilst still benefiting from the structure and support of a world-class British education. We’re proud of the opportunities this gives our students to develop into confident, happy, independent learners, who can thrive both in their studies and in life after education.
Our asynchronous learning approach opens up possibilities for our students to pursue their passions, explore the world around them, look after their wellbeing, and progress through their studies at a pace that’s right for them. It gives them the freedom to fit their learning around their life – rather than the other way around. You can see how our hyper-personalised approach compares with the synchronous approach of other schools below:
Synchronous learning (other schools) |
Asynchronous learning (Wolsey Hall Oxford) |
Students are directed in their learning by teachers who share information, guide activities and set tasks. | Students self-direct their learning, choosing from a wide range of multimedia learning materials with assignment feedback from experienced, UK-qualified Tutors. |
Students are taught in classrooms with up to 30+ other pupils. | Students can study independently from home, or wherever they are in the world. |
Students attend live lessons to a set timetable, often with the same start and finish times every day. | Students can set their own schedule so they can prioritise studying when it works for them. |
How our pupil-led learning approach works
Independent learning from anywhere
Your child can study our Cambridge-approved courses on their own, away from crowded classrooms and in an environment where they feel most comfortable, no matter where you are in the world – whether that’s at home, in a hotel, on a sailboat, or from a touring campervan!
Self-paced study at any level
Your child is free to learn at a pace that’s right for them – whether they need to study at a higher level, or take longer to fully grasp a subject. It’s ideal for gifted students who find traditional school too slow, or for neurodivergent learners who need a little more time.
Flexible schedules and routines
Your child can study when it works best for them – not when a timetable says they should. This means they can fit in important medical appointments, attend training or rehearsal sessions, or even just study to their own rhythm – without falling behind.
Multimedia learning materials
Instead of only copying from a textbook or watching PowerPoint presentations, your child can choose from a variety of on and offline multimedia learning materials like course books, quizzes, animations and more. There’s something for every learning style!
Tutor feedback – not direction
Your child will still receive expert feedback on their course assignments from our experienced, UK-qualified Tutors, to help boost their understanding and progress. Combining the benefits of being supported by a teacher, with the focus of self-directed study.
Dedicated support, when you need it
Unlike in traditional schools – where teachers are often stretched to capacity – your child will have 1:1 guidance throughout their studies from a dedicated Student Progress Manager, who’ll help them set their schedule, monitor their progress, and keep them on track.
A global school community
Because they can study when it works best for them, your child will have more free time to connect and make friends with other Wolsey Hall Oxford students around the world – through our interactive Communities, themed clubs, and regular competitions.
Our learning levels
Supporting your child at every stage of their education
We have students studying with us from ages 4 to 18 – meaning your child can study with us and gain their qualifications from home, without ever having to go back to traditional school if they don’t want to. Whatever level they’re at in their education, our approach to their learning stays the same – ensuring continuity and familiarity throughout their studies, so they can unleash their potential at every stage.

Recommend Wolsey Hall for home learning
Wolsey Hall were very efficient at onboarding our daughter mind-year (March) and promptly sent materials to the other side of the world (Australia). The courses are well-structured and content-rich. Our 13 yo daughter could navigate the platforms and complete all tasks independently. She learned a lot - more than at a physical school. The courses are easy to follow and well-organised with frequent tutor check-ins. Tutors are lovely.

Positive Experience
Wolsey Hall Oxford was highly recommended to us by an acquaintance. Our son is able to work independently, thus it was a good fit. We had the incredible support of our SPM, Victoria Stanway. She always helped in the most gracious and kind ways. The team of tutors were a great net and go to for extra assistance. We are truly grateful that our son could school with Wolsey Hall Oxford during this season.

Best Online School for Independent Learners
Our family's experience with Wolsey Hall has been exceptionally great. SPM Chris and tutor Sara were very supportive, responsive, and professional. The school's style of instruction has helped improve my son's ability to learn independently, seek out and filter information well, and develop critical thinking. We highly recommend Wolsey Hall.

A really positive learning experience
A great home learning experience for my son who was returning to a more structured education program after independent learning for a few years due to poor health. The tutors and support staff were all great at providing structure with the flexibility that we required. They were supportive and provided great feedback so that my son could further develop his skills and felt good about the progress he was making.

Great School with a lot of experience , great curriculum and very good teachers
The curriculum is very well structured, and both the study books and online platform are excellent, allowing secondary students to start studying by themselves. Our son has evolved a lot, he has learned how to study and investigate by himself, and how to use critical thinking. The teachers are very helpful and respond quickly. We are very pleased with Wolsey Hall, student and parents alike.

My daughter started home schooling two…
My daughter started home schooling two years ago with Wolsey Hall in which she has completed Year 8 & 9. This was a huge transition for her from a traditional education system to independent learning, which made possible with the great support she has gotten from her tutors and progress manager. The tutors are leaving constructive feedback indicating points of strengths and areas of improvements, which were very helpful in her learning journey. This is apparent in the improvement I saw in her grades since she started in addition to herself confidence.

Excellent
Wolsey Hall Oxford has been a fantastic experience for my daughters. They did one year in primary during COVID, and my eldest daughter re-enrolled in Year 9. She found studying independently and at her own pace more constructive. She has also acquired many skills that have assisted her learning. The resources provided are varied and abundant and the tutors are professional and competent. Our Student Progress Manager was extremely supportive and continued to motivate my daughter throughout the year. We will be continuing with Wolsey Hall Oxford for the IGSCE courses. It has made a huge difference in my daughter’s learning and I am very satisfied with the results.

Wolsey Hall provided the perfect balance of support and independent learning for my daughter, this has given her confidence in her own abilities with the safety net there when she needed it. Wolsey Hall is very professional and well organised. I was concerned about finding exam centres and getting the codes right when entering my daughter for her IGCSE’s but it was all made very straight forward by the Wolsey team, I couldn’t fault them.

Wolsey Hall was a school that really enabled I to build up my numerous skills that made I into a well independent thinker, and Wolsey Hall not only helped I study independently with no hassle unlike a school, but I really enjoyed the flexibility in doing things of my own in my spare time like prep and study plus outdoor activities like going for hour strolls to erase stress from my head.

Many Thanks To Wolsey Hall
Wolsey Hall staff and teachers were always very helpful. I did not have to wait for assessment of my assignments for any length of time. The comments of the tutors helped to improve my presentation, especially in Mathematics. The encouraging and kind comments of all the tutors kept my morale high. When I had no option near my home to pursue A levels, Wolsey Hall was the best choice. Especially suited my independent style of working. Many Thanks to Wolsey Hall.

An incredible schooling concept
For a long time, we were looking for an alternative to the mainstream schooling system, and have found it with Wolsey Hall Oxford. The intelligence and heart behind the concept and delivery is incredible. My daughter can choose her speed of learning, interest areas and most importantly she learns to be self-responsible and independent in her studying. This is for me the most important skill in our digitalized world. And through the provided forum-platform she can interact with people from around the world.

Excellent well established online school
When we were looking for a UK government approved home school for our daughter aged 15 Wolsey Hall oxford stood out to us from the start being one of the most experienced online home schools it made it a reassuring logical choice when our daughter changed from attending a physical school at the start of year 10. From our initial information zoom call we were really impressed with the online learning platform canvas and the range of GCSEs and the whole ethos and set up of the online school seemed quite straightforward and easy to use, when we signed up for our daughters GCSEs courses each subject course book arrived with us so fast then we all had some time to navigate and get used to canvas the online learning platform our daughter picked it up fast next we all met with her assigned student support manager Erica who has been a wonderful support to our daughter and to us too we all can contact Erica and she keeps in regular contact with our daughter having a super friendly point of contact like Erica with whom we can communicate with so easily has been so helpful in our home schooling journey she helps my daughter with extensions for assignments if she is struggling and she really encourages our daughter with positive and constructive feedback which really helps her mindset. The subject tutors are easy to reach if you have any questions you just feel less alone with Wolsey hall my daughter has become such an independent learner and is now so organised and is learning that reaching out for help is something she can now do without feeling so worried or anxious as Erica and all the tutors have been so kind and reassuring to her she wants to do her best and a huge weight has been lifted off her shoulders since she started at Wolsey hall oxford our daughter is so much happier and is far less anxious I'm so grateful to Wolsey hall for all the help and support they constantly provide my daughter is actually now looking forward to subjects she once disliked at school and is enjoying her Igcses and different subject challenges and it is so very wonderful to see her passionate and so engaged in her learning again thank you wolsey hall for making this transition to online learning so straightforward for us all

Great first year for my daughter
This is my daughter's 1st year at Wolsey Hall Oxford and it has been a big breakthrough for her academic life. She is a student challenged by some circumstances; however, she has maintained her high motivation to study throughout the year. The Wolsey Hall program improved her independent study by supplying various triggers to enhance her academic curiosity and her results. I greatly appreciate all the support provided to her and the trustful relationship that the tutors and progress manager made with her.

Great Experience with Wolsey Hall Oxford Homeschool
My daughter has been studying at Wolsey Hall Oxford since she was 6 years old. Now she is in her second year of schooling and in her Year 2. I am extremely satisfied with the programme offered and the teachers’ way in carrying out the lessons for my daughter was amazing. I am also convinced in the teaching methodology used at this online homeschool. It is to my expectancy. My daughter loved the offline teaching videos and she enjoy learning on her own. I am glad that I am giving her the right education needed at this young age. The teachers as well as the managers for my daughter were very friendly and organized. I can see a lot of improvement in her self independent skill as well. She learns Mathematical skills, spelling and reading words and also writing in a fun way.. Besides this, the way the concept of Mathematics taught ease the kid’s understanding and make the kid to have a love towards numbers. The designed syllabus makes my daughter to be creative, imaginative and futuristic. She learns problem solving as well and I am very much impressed in this. The teachers’ feedback and the way they approach me as a parent creates a great respect on them. I am fully satisfied with the way the teachers carry out the online lessons with my daughter and the way they approach her were very pleasing. The activities & worksheets were fantastic and engaged her to the maximum. Thanks to Wolsey Hall for this great opportunity given to Rahini to follow the UK Homeschooling System. I highly recommend Wolsey Hall to future parents that intend to homeschool kids in a fun way and engaging way. Lata ( parent of Rahini )

Tailor made, no stress, available anywhere
My son (15 years old) has been studying with Wolsey Hall for 4 years now. He started as Year 7 student and now he is preparing for his IGCSE having very successfully passed one exam already. For us Wolsey Hall turned out to be the perfect choice as we previously had lived in a different, not English speaking country, and wanted our child to have an international level education. We moved to a new country during these 4 years and got through COVID 19 restrictions without any impact on our child’s education. It was not interrupted or hampered in any way. The programme is tailor made: you can choose any combination of subjects. The school is using the best textbooks and an excellent easy navigational educational platform with clear explanations what and how to do it. The courses have a lot of additional materials available in each and every topic with brilliant explanations and relevant experiments. You have introductory Skype calls with the tutors and your Student progress manager all of whom are invariably extremely inspiring and motivational. Your Student progress manager sends you and your child a monthly report on the child’s progress highlighting any issues if any/ praising the hard work and excellent results and reminding your child of any further steps to be taken in relation to revision, etc. The child studies independently and he has a schedule of assignments on each subject to be adhered to. The tutors are available for any questions/doubts and respond promptly to any queries the child might have during the course. The tutors mark the assignments and provide detailed feedbacks. You can find a lot of advice on the platform as to how to organize the studies. The school has loads of extracurricular activities and clubs. They have a University advice team as well. My child is really happy we chose Wolsey Hall as this child-friendly, no stress school equips you with the necessary knowledge without any pressure. Studying with Wolsey is pure joy and positive experience motivating the child to look forward to further education.
