Understanding how structured homeschooling works

Introduction

In many ways, structured homeschooling offers students the best of both worlds: the academic rigour of a traditional school environment, with the flexibility and independence of homeschooling.

This style of education tends to mimic the structure of a traditional school in that it often uses set curricula (such as the Cambridge curriculum) and standardised assessment tools. Instead of subjects being taught by teachers in a physical classroom, learning takes place at home, which offers much more flexibility in course choice, pace, location, and learning style. And all without the distractions that come with crowded classrooms!

Benefits

Benefits of structured/online homeschooling

For families looking for flexibility and a more personalised approach to learning, homeschooling brings many benefits that traditional schools can’t offer. Away from the rigidity of crowded, age-segregated classrooms, children are free to learn at a pace that’s right for them, pursue their passions, and study in ways and at times that suit them best.

Online homeschooling has all the benefits of structured homeschooling, but makes a world-class education more accessible to anyone, wherever they are in the world. By following national curricula and gaining internationally recognised qualifications – but with a more flexible, accessible approach – students can move on to higher education and employment with a solid foundation of knowledge and skills for their future success.

Structured and online homeschooling are especially practical for families with circumstances or lifestyles that make it harder to study in traditional schools. For example, it allows families to make sure their child still benefits from a high-quality education while they’re travelling the world, or competing or performing as an elite athlete or artist. It’s also ideal for children who may struggle in a traditional school environment, such as gifted children who are being held back or those with special educational needs where the right support isn’t available.
