Overview

At Wolsey Hall Oxford, our Lower Secondary homeschooling courses unleash the curiosity of children ages 11 to 14. Whilst this aligns with Years 7, 8 and 9 in the UK, we prioritise ability over age, meaning that children who are younger or older than the age group for their equivalent school year can take each course at the level which best matches their current knowledge and abilities. 

Our courses are designed so that homeschooled students can study a selection of subjects at the same time and complete them all within 9 months – the equivalent of one academic year. 

If you’re not sure which level is right for your child, our Admissions team will be able to advise. We also have English, Maths and Year 8 and 9 Science pre-tests to help place your child on the right course year for them.

As your child moves into Lower Secondary, it’s the perfect time to encourage greater independence in their learning journey. Most families start with three core subjects – English, Maths and Science – which offer a strong academic foundation. But thanks to our personalised, pupil-led approach, your child is free to choose any combination of subjects that suits their interests and aspirations.

Flexible Learning, Designed Around Your Family

Our Lower Secondary courses are designed to be engaging, enriching and academically rigorous – with around 100 hours of study time each year, plus time for assignments. There are no live lessons or fixed schedules, meaning your child can work at a pace that feels right for them. Most students complete a course within an academic year, often giving them a head start on IGCSE™ preparation.

Personalised Feedback to Support Your Child’s Progress

You’ll receive detailed progress reports for all subjects at the end of Year 9. For those studying English, Maths and Science, optional progress reports are also available at the end of Years 7 and 8. These insights help you and your child understand their strengths and next steps – so they feel confident and supported as they move on to the next stage.

    a good homeschooling option. nevertheless the school fees year by year increase drastically . Would it be possible to lower the fees a bit without affecting the quality of education. it would be very helpful to continue with wolsey hall, i am sad to leave it because i am having serious trouble affording it this year. i am sad to say this.

  • Homeschooling - a wonderful experience!

    What an amazing 3 months of homeschooling... indeed we are fortunate to get to know about Wolsey Hall Oxford and I am proud to say it was one of the best decisions of our life to choose homeschooling for our daughter Abigail. Its just 3 months though, but the changes in our daughter's motivation, study pattern and confidence is noticeable. Tutors are providing feedback on time and motivating her to keep on doing hard work along with explaining details and minor mistakes in a very polite and encouraging way. SPM Melanie, Tutor Nicole, Tutor Faith, Tutor Hannah and other admin staff, we highly appreciate your support and guidance to make this journey of homeschooling possible and smooth for us.   • Best Choice For Homeschooling

    Before we made the decision to take the homeshooling route, we talked to friends with homeschooled children and were largely unimpressed. We scoured the internet and came across Wolsey. It seemed to be the one that best matched our daughter's Cambridge system education at that point. We're glad we ultimately went the Wolsey route. The flexibility of homeschooling suited us perfectly, the course materials are of high quality, and SPM Kristina and the tutors are a delight to work with. Contrary to our initial reservations, homeschooling with Wolsey actually helped our daughter become a more independent, confident and disciplined student, things which will help her immensely when she goes to university. The ability to choose her own subjects allowed us to tailor her learning to her interests and give her a sense of what course she wants to take up. We also appreciate how Wolsey worked closely with our daughter to prepare for her IGCSE exams. The Wolsey experience has been a positive one not only for our child but for us as well. We'd recommend it highly to anyone looking for a homeschooling solution. We feel it's one of the best out there.

  • Only good experiences

    The course materials were great and the tutors were very helpful, who were always available when my child needed support. We had a great experience especially with our student manager. She was very attentive and supportive. She understood our situation well (traveling etc) and gave us the necessary advices promptly. When we needed a specific document urgently, they attended to our request immediately and handled it professionally. Thanks to all, we had a good homeschooling experience. Highly recommended.
