I have been a Student Progress Manager with Wolsey Hall for many years now and it always makes me very happy when I see how successful my students are and enjoying their studies.
Whilst the initial step to starting online studies can be a little scary, I hope we can make your journey one of enjoyment and the SPMs are always available to help with any questions or queries. We are happy to make adjustments to schedules to make life a little easier for our students.
Whilst my main occupation is looking after my students, I relax by reading, gardening when the weather permits and meeting up with friends for supper (and sometimes breakfast!), I have family who are scattered throughout the UK, so I do a lot of travelling as well as visiting friends and relatives is the USA.
My days are full, but my greatest achievement is to have successful students.

When Rachel is not supporting and encouraging her Wolsey Hall students, she enjoys camping, cooking, reading and spending time with her daughter and very naughty terrier.

I absolutely love education in all the forms that it takes. Following my Masters in Educational Research Methods, I became a researcher at the University of Hertfordshire on a project that evaluated the impact of the ‘Aimhigher’ widening participation programme in schools. After I had been ‘on the side lines’ looking into schools, I was desperate to get in and start training as a classroom teacher myself, so I completed a PGCE in 2007 at the Institute of Education in London.
I have been teaching Psychology for over 13 years and started my career working in inner-city London schools. I have been an examiner for A Level Psychology for most of that time and have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the examining process. I also teach Health and Social Care, and I am the centre coordinator for the EPQ at the school I currently teach in.
Psychology as a discipline is a passion of mine, and I regularly read up to date research around the subject as a member of the British Psychological Society. To be able to combine that with introducing students to the subject is a joy, and I have been lucky to have inspired students to go on to study Psychology at university. Working with young people on a day to day basis is an absolute privilege, and studying a subject that I am also so fond of, really is the dream!
I am lucky to now live in the beautiful, rural county of Northumberland where I enjoy all that the area has to offer with fantastic beaches and forests on my doorstep. In my spare time, I love travelling with my family to Europe and have enjoyed recent camping holidays in Germany, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

I have been working with children now for around 25 years – starting off as a voluntary leader with Girlguiding UK, progressing to a Specialist Learning Support Assistant and then training as a Primary teacher specialising in History. Over the past 15 years, I have had the opportunity to teach a whole range of ages, from three year-olds up to adults, in both state and private schools. During that time, I have also specialised in working with learners with SEN, particularly dyslexia, ADHD and ASD, including training as an Irlen Visual Stress Screener.
I absolutely love learning and am particularly drawn to History and English – so much so that I continued to study Humanities, Art History and English whilst doing my teacher training. I like to visit museums and historic towns and villages around the UK with my husband and two daughters.
When I was a student, I had the opportunity to volunteer in a museum, interviewing local people for their oral history archives. A few years ago, I also teamed up with a film-maker to record a local history walk. I am fascinated by knowing about the lives people used to lead and how this relates to us now! It is also interesting how our language has evolved and this helps tremendously when teaching English.
When I’m not teaching or visiting interesting places, I like to keep fit. I was always very active as a child and this continued through playing various sports over the years including ladies’ and mixed rugby. I am now running again. I used to run 100m/200m for a club but, this time, longer distances from 5k to training for a marathon.
I have used my expertise to teach PE and the Sports Leaders programme at both Primary and Secondary Level, and most recently qualifying as an England Athletics Run Leader. I think it’s incredibly important to balance studying and working with wellbeing and health. I am qualified as a Mental Health and Mindfulness Coach, something that I have found is essential for all learners in any educational setting.
I am excited to be sharing my skills and experience with the students at Wolsey Hall Oxford.

I began my career as a nursery nurse, working with children from birth to five in Foundation Stage settings, including as a pre-school manager. I thrived in creating a stimulating learning environment for children in which they could become active and curious learners. My experience as a nursery nurse highlighted the importance of laying strong foundations in the early years.
Whilst working as a nursery nurse, I studied with the Open University to complete my BA in English Literature and then completed the Graduate Teacher Training Programme with the Shire Foundation in Luton, gaining QTS in 2011.
As a trained teacher, I have taught in a range of Primary schools gaining a wealth of experience teaching in Early Years, Key Stage 1 and 2. I have found teaching such a rewarding career, and I am delighted to be a Tutor at Wolsey Hall. I’m passionate about teaching children to develop a love of learning and help inspire them to become lifelong learners.
I encourage all children to be resilient, independent learners and teach them how they can reflect on their learning in order to improve further.
I enjoy teaching all subjects, in particular, reading and writing. I love how reading can spark children’s imaginations and transport them to different worlds. Enriching children with the power of language and exploring the meanings of new vocabulary, enables their creative ideas to flow.
In my spare time, I enjoy reading a range of novels, experimenting with baking unusual recipes and participating in my Latin dance classes. Most of my time is spent being Mum to my three very energetic children and participating in their fun, imaginative and very messy adventures!

I have been teaching since 2003 and previously worked as a Stage Manager in various theatres across the UK. I am now able to combine my love of Drama with my love of literature by working as an English and Drama specialist.
I have taught in various educational settings, including specialist environments for children with visual impairments. I regularly directed and staged full-stage productions, some of which included The Bacchae, Guys & Dolls and Beauty & the Beast.
I have taught online for about two years, and I love that this allows me to connect with students worldwide and gives me the freedom to walk in my local countryside between lessons. I enjoy working one-on-one with students and have been delighted to be part of the UK National Tutoring Programme, which supports children who cannot be in school for a variety of reasons.
I love to be outside in nature, whether walking, growing vegetables or swimming in my local lido. I recently learned to swim and think it’s vital that we keep learning skills throughout life. I am also a writer in my spare time and contribute to Drama and Theatre magazine for teachers, textbooks and my own personal blog.

I have always been fascinated about the world, discovering new locations and learning about the constantly changing human interactions with the natural environment. Throughout my school career, Geography was my favourite subject, and it was an easy decision to go on and study it at university.
I gained my BSc in Geography in 2003 and completed my PGCE the following year, both from the University of Exeter. While at university, I embraced the wonderful natural environment of Devon, by canoe, walking on Dartmoor and surfing on the beaches. Following my PGCE, I started my teaching career in Gloucestershire, where I taught for six years. The opportunity to inspire others about Geography and lead field trips to a variety of locations was extremely rewarding. Iceland was a favourite of mine and is on my list of places to revisit.
Following a career break to bring up my two young children, I worked as a Learning Support teacher In Devon. This gave me invaluable experience of working with small groups and one-to-one, providing specific programmes for individual’s needs. More recently, I have moved to rural Suffolk and have been working as a part-time Geography teacher. Throughout this time, I have been a GCSE examiner.
While I am not working, I still enjoy being outdoors and exploring different places with my family. We have a camper-van and love the freedom this brings.
I look forward to being able to share my passion for Geography and supporting you through your course. It is a real privilege to be able to help, and as your Tutor, I will be readily available to answer your questions.

I have worked as a teacher of Psychology, Sociology & Thinking Skills since 2002. After completing my BSc in Psychology & Sociology, I began teaching A-Level Psychology at various sixth form colleges in Surrey. During this time, I completed my teaching qualification at Greenwich University.
Throughout my teaching career I have worked in the UK and overseas, in Oman. Whilst overseas, I taught International Baccalaureate (IB), including English, Humanities and Theory of Knowledge. Furthermore, I am a qualified Life Coach and Nutritional Therapist. Since 2019 I have worked as an online tutor, supporting students with Psychology/Sociology and providing academic coaching support. I also work as an A Level and GCSE examiner.
I have a passion for teaching my subjects; they cover fascinating and engaging topics that enable us to understand the world, and the people, around us. Psychology is such a valuable subject as it extends core skills in writing, scientific enquiry and mathematical analysis. In addition, Thinking Skills is a fantastic subject to develop robust skills for both higher education and future employment. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are integral for success in many aspects of life. I am also hugely interested in the process of learning, understanding how to encourage and nurture dispositions towards learning that build academic success and independence.
I live in Dorking with my husband and two children; it is a quaint market town in Surrey famous for its Olympic cycle route and gigantic chicken statue.
Learning support FAQs

How do I request Learning and Wellbeing Support for my child?
Once you’re enrolled, you’ll receive information on how to access our Tier 1 support. Your Student Progress Manager will be able to provide details of how to access our Tier 3 services.
Does Wolsey Hall have experience supporting children with additional needs?
Yes — our team has supported hundreds of students with a wide range of needs, including dyslexia, ADHD, autism, anxiety, and more, to help them thrive in their studies. You can read some of our Student Stories to see how we’ve supported students with additional needs to unleash their potential.
What types of Learning and Wellbeing Support are available?
We offer three tiers of support:
- Personalised study schedules and learning materials for all students, with expert Tutor feedback and an easy-to-use student learning platform.
- Advice and guidance from a dedicated Student Progress Manager.
- 1:1 sessions with a specialist Tutor on a range of topics including access arrangements, wellbeing and SEND needs (available as a paid service).
Do I need a diagnosis or written report to get support?
No, you don’t need a formal diagnosis to access our support. You can share as much or as little information with us as you feel comfortable with. We’ll always respect your privacy and only pass on information to necessary parties with your consent.
Can I tell Tutors about my child’s specific needs?
Yes — when you enrol, you’ll have the option to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). This helps Tutors understand your child’s learning preferences and any support needs they have.
Can Wolsey Hall Oxford help with exam Access Arrangements?
Access Arrangements are handled by your chosen exam centre, but we can offer guidance and provide a letter explaining your child’s preferred study methods, which can support your application.
My child needs extra support — can we book 1:1 sessions?
Yes — our Tier 3 support includes 1:1 sessions with a specialist Tutor. These are available on a one-off or ongoing basis. Please note that these sessions incur an additional fee. Your SPM will be able to provide you with more information.
How much does Learning Support cost?
Tier 1 and Tier 2 support are included as part of your child’s course fees. Tier 3 services are charged separately depending on your child’s needs, and you can book either a one-off session or multiple sessions.
My child has an EHCP. How does that affect the support they can get?
We’re happy to support students with EHCPs through our Tier 3 services. However, please note that we can’t be named as the official ‘school setting’ in Section I of the EHCP, as we are a homeschooling provider. We would recommend speaking to your local authority to see if they can provide funding for support.
What if my child struggles with some of the learning resources?
Our multimedia learning materials are designed with different learning styles in mind. If something doesn’t work for your child, we can suggest adaptations that can be made at home to help them learn in the best way for them.
Can my child work at a slower pace due to their needs?
Yes — our courses are available to study over 12 months (Primary and Lower Secondary Level) or 24 months (GCSE and A Level), meaning your child can take breaks or take more time with their courses if they need it. You can also extend the course for up to 3 months for a small fee if needed.
Can my child study the course without having to take assignments or meet deadlines?
For Primary Level students, there’s an option to study the course content with minimal Tutor feedback. However, at Secondary Level, your child will need to submit regular assignments to test their understanding and progress — if this may be challenging for your child, we’ll work with you to find a solution. Your SPM will be able to provide more information about our dormancy policy.
Still have questions?
If you’re a current Wolsey Hall Oxford student, please speak to your Student Progress Manager. If you’re considering enrolling with us, our Learning Advisors and Admissions Team can offer advice and support.
