Ingrid Lilley


My teaching background is within Sociology, Psychology, Applied Science and Early Years. Since achieving my BA (Hons) degree and PGCE, I have obtained extensive experience of teaching, assessing, monitoring and tutoring learners in a variety of settings. Prior to this, I had a diverse nursing career, mainly working within a surgical speciality.

Having worked for over 12 years as a senior examiner in health and social care, childhood education and psychology, GCSE and A level awards, I have a unique insight into preparing students for final examinations. Employment as a moderator for the A level Applied Science and medical based units has enabled me to use my nursing expertise and knowledge to help students prepare for success in their final assessments. I currently also write and edit examination papers for a leading exam board.

The use of empathy is embraced within my teaching, and my ethos is based on partnership and mutual respect. I have a calm, nurturing approach. I pay attention to detail, and I work well to deadlines.

I am sensitive to the needs of all levels of students, using positive reinforcement as a tool to promote good relationships and raise aspirations with a ‘can do’ approach.

Sociology is a fascinating subject and will change the way you view the world around you. This understanding is invaluable in any 21st century working environment as it raises awareness of power relationships, and provides a foundation as to how we view our place within global society today. Have you ever wondered how we developed into today’s society? Have you thought about how the way you see yourself determines the way that other people identify you? A-level Sociology will help you to make sense of the society we live in and understand the cultural and identity issues which affect us all.

I am looking forward to sharing this knowledge and joining you on your learning journey. When not teaching, my hobbies include designing and creating patchwork quilts for children, gardening with sub-tropical plants, reading about and practicing the metaphysics of positive thinking.
