James McCue

BSc, PGCE, SASP

I have been driven to understand how the Universe works for as long as I can remember. My first memories include spending hours reading my huge Science encyclopaedia and watching Science documentaries. I consider myself a student of all Sciences; I never really had a favourite as I wanted to know a complete picture of the Universe. I studied all Sciences until University Level, then chose to focus on Marine Biology in the year 2000.

After completing my PGCE in 2005 and starting to work in Secondary schools, I quickly realised that Physics was not popular amongst the staff or students! My Science Department Director allowed me to begin leading the Physics curriculum, and I worked hard to make the lessons reveal the beauty and excitement in Physics. I went on to be appointed as Head of Physics in my next school. I enjoyed re-modelling the curriculum to make Physics accessible, relevant and exciting. I became a Physics specialist and enthusiast and continued to develop my understanding and teaching of Physics. I enjoyed working in mainstream schools at Lower Secondary, GCSE and A level until I chose to leave the traditional physical classroom in 2021.

Since then, I have started a Luthier business making and repairing guitars. I also teach yoga in Primary schools and mark GCSE Physics exams for the AQA every Summer. I am thrilled to be part of the Wolsey Hall Oxford team and being able to share my enthusiasm for Physics with you.
