Paul Hanlon

GIBiol, PGCE, QTS

I started my working life in Finance in the City of London, where I worked as a trainee stockbroker on a graduate scheme for a well-known City institution. A move into recruitment opened my eyes to teaching, and I found my true vocation. Following completion of a PGCE, I taught Science at Stantonbury Campus, one of the largest schools in the UK at the time.

After a round-the-world trip with my future wife in 1996/97, I gained the post of Head of Biology at Holyhead High School on Anglesey. I was then headhunted to an independent school in Bangor as Head of Science, teaching IGCSE and A level Biology. My department was a significant driver in the school being ranked #2 in the UK.

More recently, I spent two years in the UAE, where I taught AP Biology to Elite stream G9 and G10 students and worked for the Ministry of Education in the Curriculum and Assessment Unit, going on to become ASP Biology Assessment Lead for the whole of the UAE. This involved writing national interim assessments and final examinations for all Emirati students on the program.

I returned to the UK in September 2021, where I have been providing specialist Biology tuition to both Chinese and local UK students.

My focus above all is the development of students, providing them with the tools to be the best scientists and engineers of the future if they so desire. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy current affairs, walking, keeping fit and playing squash.
