Shona Tosh

BA (Hons), PGCE, QTS

Welcome to Wolsey Hall! I love learning and am excited to facilitate your learning journey. I have lots of experience teaching both Business Studies and Sociology. I began teaching these subjects at GCSE and A level in 2005 and continue to work part-time in a local secondary school. For seven years, I was Subject Leader for Sociology, and I have been an examiner for Cambridge International since 2015, so I am extremely familiar with the Cambridge International syllabuses.

I consider myself to be a life-long learner. Since completing my BA (Hons) and PGCE, I have undertaken several postgraduate courses and am working towards completing a Masters. Completing a Masters has enabled me to combine knowledge of Business and Sociology, for example, taking the sociological perspective of postmodernism and using this perspective to explore organisational leadership styles.

Before becoming a teacher, I spent five years working in banking and life assurance which inspired me to begin studying Business Management at university. In addition, my husband and I are directors of a limited company, so I have practical experience of the setting up and running of a business as well as the theoretical underpinnings learnt in my undergraduate degree.

I am passionate about raising awareness of the many inequalities present within society. I have three sons (including two teenagers) and have greatly enjoyed introducing them to feminist theories!

When not teaching, tutoring, studying or parenting, I enjoy swimming as much as possible (although in an indoor swimming pool – I am not brave enough for sea swimming in the cold Irish Sea that surrounds where I live!)
