Business and Economics are dynamic subjects, requiring you to be aware of, and inquisitive about the world around you. They are exciting subjects to study, allowing you to develop your understanding of the way economies work, focusing on businesses that interest you, while developing the skills of analysis and evaluation. Having a clear understanding of how businesses work and the skills to assess and make strategic, balanced judgements will help you succeed in business in the future.
I grew up in a family of business people, so it was no surprise that I went onto university to study Accountancy and Human Resource Management upon leaving school. With my degree completed, I worked in various businesses ranging from banking to community development, to software development. I then retrained as a teacher, and ever since then I have specialised in teaching Economics and Business Studies at IGCSE and A Level.
I have been teaching for over 15 years now, and I love the variety it brings. I have been a teacher, a pastoral Tutor, a Head of Department and an enrichment coordinator, career lead, academic tutor and an examiner at both GCSE and A Level. I also Tutor online and on holiday revision courses.
I live in Donegal, Ireland, and when I am not teaching or tutoring, I take full advantage of the natural beauty of the area by being a keen walker, swimmer and cyclist. Recently I have taken up golf which is proving a little trickier than I had thought!
I am delighted to be part of the Wolsey Hall Oxford Tutor team, and I look forward to sharing my passion for Business, Economics and learning while supporting you through your course.

I am an Economics graduate and qualified teacher with over 30 years’ experience. I have delivered a range of Social Science subjects including Business Studies, Sociology and Law, but my focus has always been the teaching of Economics. Since 2001, I have been Head of the Social Science Faculty and sole teacher of GCSE/A Level Economics at a large secondary school on the Isle of Man. I am also an Assistant Examiner for Cambridge Assessment International Examinations, with over 10 years’ experience of marking A Level and IGCSE papers. Finally, I have provided A Level Economics private tuition for many years, guiding and supporting many students to exam success.
My main motivators in teaching are to inspire students to share my passion for Economics and the insight it gives them into the workings of the modern world, and to help students prepare for success in examinations by providing them with formative, developmental feedback and guidance.
Outside of the classroom my main interests are in outdoor activities, predominantly sea kayaking and cycling. I am a qualified sea kayaking coach and leader and have kayaked extensively in the UK, Norway and Canada. I also enjoy travelling with my wife in our campervan. We have two grown-up children who have now left home.
It is an honour to be a tutor at Wolsey Hall Oxford and I look forward to helping and guiding you towards a successful outcome in Economics.

Business and Economics underpins the economic factors that influence firms’ decision-making, how they react to changes in the economy and how human behaviour changes based on demand and supply. Seeing students develop and enjoy an understanding of concepts and topics, then achieving and excelling in their exams, has always been the highlight of my career.
I qualified with a degree in Business and Economics and went on to work in industry whilst completing an Accounting course. I then worked as an Accountant for several years. Although I enjoyed working in industry, my passion had always been to move into teaching; therefore, I went back to university to complete a postgraduate degree in Education.
I am currently the Head of Sixth Form in a Secondary school and lead on Economics and Business, teaching both GCSE and A Level. Through my role as Head of Sixth Form, I have supported students in different subjects and built professional relationships with many students in the school. The best thing I have gained from working with these students is to see them succeed in what they are passionate about. Every year, I see students apply to university and apprenticeships, and there is nothing more worthwhile than watching them receive offers from their first choice of university or workplace.
As well as being a teacher, I am an examiner for a variety of exam boards in England and have marked both the English and IAL exams. Although being an examiner can be challenging, it is also rewarding because it has helped me develop my teaching ability and increase the help I can provide to my students.
Outside of work, I enjoy hosting dinner parties and love spending time with my friends and family. As much as I love working, having the ability to spend time with my three gorgeous children and husband is always the highlight of my weekend.

I find all Social Sciences fascinating as they give me a great understanding of the world. I studied Latin American Studies, a multi-disciplinary degree that included major components in sociology and Economics. These components helped me progress on the theories learned at A Level and discover how they relate to developing countries. I then began teaching these subjects at A level following my PGCE and taught for 23 years in both 11-18 schools and Sixth Form Colleges around Hampshire and Yorkshire. In 2017 I also completed a part-time MA in Research at Leeds University.
For the last six years, I have concentrated on teaching and tutoring one-to-one, building on my twenty years of experience as an examiner and assessor for AQA, OCR and CIE exam boards. I enjoy helping my students love these fascinating subjects. Alongside this role, I am a tour guide for Food Tours in Yorkshire, taking small groups to local independent restaurants and bars to taste delicious food and wine and meeting many interesting people visiting the area.
I live in Harrogate with my partner and two cats and have two daughters who have now left home. I love the Spanish language and culture and have previously lived in Spain and Mexico. I am always trying to improve my use of the language, and I am currently also trying to improve my French. I have always loved travelling, and my recent trips have taken me to Sri Lanka and the Baltic countries.
Regarding my teaching, I hope my enthusiasm for my subjects, kindness, patience and clear feedback on students’ assignments help all students achieve their aims.

I have been teaching Maths and Economics for 11 years after a long and successful career in business. I worked in telecoms after graduating as an engineer. After ten years in Japan and Southern Europe, working in business development and marketing, I returned to the UK and sought a new and fresh challenge in teaching.
Living and working in Japan was a wonderful experience, learning about a different culture and business approach. As I worked for a Japanese company, I also learned Japanese, though I do not get much practice these days. My family and I travelled extensively around Asia, and we enjoyed the varied experiences from walking on the Great Wall of China to diving off the coast of Australia.
I qualified as a teacher after my PGCE and have enjoyed teaching at independent senior schools and being a pastoral form Tutor to students. I have seen the challenges which students face during the course of their senior school years before they enter university: and, of course, their many successes.
I work part-time at a school. I head up Economics and teach Maths: both subjects to A level. I also Tutor face to face, working with students of different abilities. I try to support students in their understanding and learning of Maths through high-quality feedback, verbal and written – so that they can improve on areas they find difficult. I get a real sense of achievement when my students achieve their aims – be it a Maths scholarship to a leading public school or a place to study for an Economics degree.
I love to travel and to understand different cultures. My hobbies include cooking, learning Spanish and playing the guitar. In the summer months, I do my best to stay fit by running.
I am delighted to be a Tutor at Wolsey Hall and to be able to support you in achieving your full potential.

On leaving University, my first career was in Banking where I spent some fifteen years. I then retrained as a teacher and ever since then I have specialised in teaching Economics and Business Studies at A level. I teach also at GCSE/IGCSE Level.
My career has taken me to some wonderful schools, notably Sherborne Girls, Canford and Cheltenham Ladies. Many of my students have enjoyed considerable success, including going on to Oxford and Cambridge. I am currently teaching part-time at the Maynard School in Exeter. I am also an A level Examiner. In recent years I have been specialising in revision tuition both online and on holiday revision courses.
Above all else, I am passionate about getting students to see the real world relevance of what they are studying. Economics and Business are both subjects that provide students with skills that are very relevant to their professional careers, and I look forward to sharing my passion with Wolsey Hall Oxford students.
I live in beautiful West Dorset with my family and three Labrador dogs. My hobbies include philately (I am a member of the Royal Philatelic Society, London) Football (I’m a lifelong Southampton supporter, which explains why I sometimes look a bit depressed on a Monday morning!), gardening and reading.

My view of education was shaped at a very young age. As a child, I was frightened of Maths; I found it incomprehensible, and then at the age of eight, I met an outstanding teacher who showed me how to learn, and in doing so, taught me Maths. The lessons I learned then stayed with me throughout my education and led me to complete a degree in Management and Maths. Upon graduating, I moved to Romania and taught in a British International School. It was this experience that encouraged me to become a teacher. I always strive to be that outstanding teacher for each of my students.
I have been a teacher now for over ten years. I have taught Business, Economics and Maths in England, Romania and Thailand. I have spent the last eight years living in Thailand. I worked in a British International school as the Head of A level and Deputy Head of Secondary Level. I am now back in the UK, and I teach GCSE Maths part-time in a further education college.
I still love teaching today as much as I did when I first began. I love sharing my passion for my subjects with others, encouraging and helping others, and building working relationships. Teaching allows us to guide students to their own futures and teaches us new ideas, new cultures, and new ways of living along the way.
Outside of teaching, I love being with my children and family, knitting and crocheting, and travelling whenever possible.
I feel very fortunate to work for Wolsey Hall Oxford, and I look forward to sharing your learning journey.
