I took my degree in Computer Studies, which also contained modules of Maths. This inspired me to become a Maths teacher and to complete a two year PGCE in Mathematics. Since then I’ve enjoyed over fifteen years of teaching Mathematics to Secondary school pupils, while helping to bring up four wonderful daughters.

I like trying to prove that Maths can be useful and enjoyable by using computers and Maths to analyse systems and solve problems. I love participating in escape rooms, cipher challenges and gaming and I enjoy making and sharing online videos of Maths tuition.

Although I have successfully fulfilled roles from supply teacher to Head of Department, my main passion is one to one personal online learning. I have found myself becoming more aware of the progress and success of online education. This, combined with my interest in technology, and my requirements for career flexibility, has caused me to lean towards online Mathematics tutoring as opposed to whole-school classroom teaching. I feel that it offers a more rewarding, enjoyable and personalised experience for both Tutor and student. My own daughter, who miraculously survived a deadly form of meningitis, has also been homeschooled with Wolsey Hall Oxford. We both agree that it is an exciting and supportive learning platform.

I like to keep fit and healthy, write and perform songs and poems, participate in sports and poker tournaments and make family documentaries showcasing my family’s unique and incredible life. As my children grow and begin to tell their own stories, I’m often travelling as a chaperone, or spending time filming, so a flexible online Tutor role is perfect for me.

I’m positive, enthusiastic and approachable and I hope you can share my passion and commitment to learning Mathematics as we work together.

I am a qualified Maths teacher with seventeen years of experience teaching in Mainstream schools and an Alternative Education setting for Berkshire students with social, emotional, behavioural, and learning needs.

I graduated from Warwick University with a Physics Degree, specialising in Astrophysics, an interest I continue to pursue. After spending a year travelling, I fell into a job in IT, working through application support into a Project Manager role. After ten years, I realised that I had a passion for teaching, something I said I would never do as both my parents were Maths teachers!

I took a job at an Alternative Education College and retrained as a Maths teacher, qualifying a year later whilst working in a Mainstream school. I became Head of Department and Leader of Learning, training new teachers and delivering in-school training to staff.

In 2021 my wife and I decided we wanted a change, so we moved to Scotland, giving up classroom teaching to set up a smallholding, grow vegetables and herbs, expand our beekeeping, and run a small business making products from our beeswax. I continue to love teaching and tutor students 1-1 online, as well as running courses on Bee and Chicken keeping, and memory techniques.

I love helping students develop their learning, not just in Maths, which is a wonderful subject, but also in the transferable skills such as problem-solving and logical reasoning. A teacher’s success can be measured by how the student can eventually learn without them, developing the skills to know what to do when they do not know what to do.

This is a benefit of online learning as it gives the students the freedom to explore the subject beyond what might traditionally be presented directly to them. I feel this style of learning prepares students for the next step, whether College, University or a job, and develops the student into a lifelong independent learner.

I have been passionate about Maths for as long as I can remember. Growing up it was always my favourite subject closely followed by Science. I love the satisfying feeling of solving a problem. As I progressed through school I realised that I wanted Maths to be a part of my future.

After my children were born I decided to put my enthusiasm for the subject to good use and become a teacher. I finished my Mathematics degree in 2014 and went straight on to gaining qualified teacher status the following year. I have taught in three Secondary schools since I qualified and have worked with students in years 7-13. I currently teach part-time in an independent school teaching A level Maths, Further Maths and IB Maths. I have spent many years tutoring students one on one. This has been a wonderful experience and I have loved building relationships with students and watching them succeed in their studies.

This year I have been studying from home myself to gain a certificate in Physics through the Open University. I plan to continue studying for pleasure for many years to come. Studying myself gives me a great understanding of the pressures that come with juggling learning and life. I think this enables me to be a compassionate and understanding teacher.

I have two children, and family time is very important to me. We love the great outdoors and keeping active. One of our favourite activities is bike riding. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and am a regular visitor to the local library.

I always loved Maths at school and initially decided to pursue a career in Finance. I studied Accounting and Financial Analysis at university and had a short career in Finance and Payroll before deciding teaching would be a better fit for me. I completed my PGCE and gained NQT status in schools close to where I grew up in the UK, then looked at opportunities to teach abroad, wishing to combine my love of travel with teaching.

This led me to teach in Cairo for eight years, where I was Head of Department for five years, and for the final two years, I also held the position of Assistant Head in charge of Timetabling and Scheduling. I took a year out in 2009 and travelled for six months, much of which was spent in South East Asia, which I thoroughly enjoyed. When a teaching position later came up in Bangkok, I knew it was an area I’d love to live and explore further. After three years of teaching in Thailand, I decided to move closer to home to spend more time with friends and family. I now own and run a holiday cottage complex in France and tutor part-time.

I have experience teaching Mathematics across the entire ability range from age 11 to 18. I am familiar with both CIE and Edexcel exam boards up to higher-level IGCSE and have been an examiner for Edexcel Higher IGCSE since 2012. I find this useful when teaching as I know what examiners are looking for in the steps used to solve problems. I find teaching very rewarding and am passionate about sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm for Mathematics with my students!

When I’m not tutoring or cleaning holiday cottages, I enjoy spending time outside in the countryside horse riding or walking my dog Pickles. I used to offer clubs in crafts and baking in schools and now regularly attempt new crafting ideas at home or bake cakes for my guests. I still enjoy travelling several times a year and try to get back to the UK as often as possible.

My favourite childhood game was “schools”; as soon as my little sister could walk and talk I converted our playroom into a classroom. I cannot imagine what this toddler made of her big sister’s “lessons”, but my decision many years later to become a teacher came as no surprise to my family.

At school I immersed myself in Mathematics. I would find myself constantly searching for patterns in numbers and shapes around me, and loved using a combination of Maths and Logic to solve problems. In fact I enjoyed the subject so much that I decided to pursue a degree in Mathematics at the University of Birmingham, which included studying equations to explain why tigers have stripes but leopards have spots!

I then completed a PGCE, and with these qualifications I started my career teaching Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level Maths at a school in Birmingham. For the past twenty years I have worked as a private Maths Tutor, juggling my love of teaching Maths with the joy of bringing up three boys! I have enjoyed tutoring a wide range of ages and abilities, and I quickly develop a close rapport with my students as we work together to achieve their goals: nothing gives me greater pleasure than when all the hard work pays off.

Through my sons I have rediscovered the simple pleasures in life: hunting for ladybirds; feeding the ducks; running through a pile of leaves; dancing in the pouring rain; and rolling down a hill to name but a few. I have also developed a creative side, and love making special birthday cakes, from hedgehog to chess-set shaped. Only last week I had to create a marsupial costume for one of my sons, and spent hours turning a hat (shaped originally as a cat’s face) into a half convincing koala!

In my spare time I enjoy playing the piano. I love musicals and watch them as often as I can. This isn’t as frequently as it used to be, so I make up for it by singing around the house. Fortunately, as a distance learner, you won’t be able to hear me! I am really looking forward to sharing my enthusiasm for Maths and supporting you during this course.

After graduating in Engineering from university in Bratislava, I did not want to settle down. So I decided to go to Siena to study the Italian language and culture. I had a wonderful time, not only learning the language, but also about Art, History, Music and above all food! The course opened my eyes and gave me a taste of living abroad and the experience of different cultures. Returning from Italy, I had the opportunity to translate a contemplative book from Italian which has been my biggest achievement so far.

Teaching was not a career I had considered when finishing high school. But as the mother of three children, I became involved in school life and realised how much I enjoyed it!

I started tutoring about ten years ago, working with people of different ages and abilities. I also work as a maths teacher at a local Secondary school. The two roles give me a real sense of achievement and satisfaction and I have come to see how different “learning” is from “schooling”.

It’s through my work experience that I see the value of a good education in Maths. Maths is not just numbers. It is a way of thinking and problem solving. Although I spent a great deal of time searching for those exciting Maths questions and fascinating facts (by the way, do you know when we started using negative numbers?), I have many other interests. One of them is Art: I love drawing and I draw all my 3D shapes for the classroom. History is my other pursuit together with travelling, hiking and spending money on books!

I am not new to studying at home as I completed my GCSE English online! Having come to this country with no English I readily understand learners’ needs, struggles and aspirations. And I can assure you that studying at home does not equal being alone. The positive aspect is that you can decide when and what you want to study. I look forward to helping you on your Maths journey.

Being fortunate to travel with my teaching qualifications, I have gained experience in both the pastoral and academic fields in Hong Kong, Prague and Dubai following my first teaching post in Sussex, UK. This has allowed me to gain a bounty of knowledge about a huge variety of nationalities, cultures and learning styles. I have led Mathematics Departments in Prague and in Dubai and held the post of Assistant Head, Academics before taking a career break to focus on my children, leaving expatriate life behind. This has given me the most wonderful opportunity to focus solely on the other side of the fence where I can enjoy the privileges of being a full-time mum supporting my children on their learning journey.

Of course, I especially love to see their progression in Mathematics particularly because both of my children have struggled to grasp this subject with the ease that I did. The blessing in this is that I have had first-hand experience with my own children of the frustrations that learning Maths can bring. And this has developed my ability to empathise and made me a better teacher/ Tutor.

I love being able to help students learn. I also love to make learning more interesting. But most importantly I love the moment when a learner completely gets it!

Attitude is everything and you must be prepared to step out of your comfort zone to grow. Recently, I decided to enter a Strictly Come Dancing competition to raise money for charity. It was a fabulous life-enhancing experience and I was petrified. But I did it and survived to tell the tale! I do love a challenge and have been known to throw myself out of aeroplanes for fun… although I am happier with both feet firmly on the ground when I am walking and hill climbing anywhere green! I am a musician too, piano being my main instrument and regularly play the church organ at my local church. I love period dramas but am quite taken with “Suits” at the moment although there’s nothing quite like a good book and a cuppa when I get the time.

Teaching is my vocation. I am compassionate, flexible and student-centred and I am very much looking forward to helping you do the very best that you possibly can.

Geography is a fascinating subject that explains so much about the world around us. It is contemporary and relevant; consider the current issues of climate change, resource consumption and population growth. My favourite topics are weather, hydrology and development.

At school I also loved Mathematics, I enjoy logic and problem solving and liked the fact that it was possible to get full marks. I was also one of the first group of pupils to sit a public examination in Computer Science. At the time the school had three computers!

At university I opted for a joint degree in Geography and Computer Science. Having gained a first class BA (Joint Honours), I remained at Keele University and completed a PGCE in Geography and Mathematics.

For the last 26 years, I have taught Secondary (Key Stage 3), GCSE, and A Level Geography. During this time, I have also taught Secondary Level Mathematics, Information Technology and Computing.

My first teaching job was in a private boarding school in Cheltenham, I then moved to an international boarding school in Suffolk, and most recently have been teaching in a state boarding school in Dover. I have experience of tutoring a wide range of students.

During my spare time, I am passionate about horse riding. I own two horses and compete regularly. I am proud to have competed in British Show Jumping’s National Amateur Finals on two occasions and to have competed at Hickstead. I also enjoy trampolining, skiing, shooting, fell walking and rock climbing.

I am an approachable person and always willing to advise those who are keen to learn. I am happy to keep explaining things until you understand. Learning is challenging, but I am sure that with hard work, tenacity and resilience you will succeed in achieving your goals.

Teaching is my passion. I have been teaching Maths for as long as I can remember, to anyone who will listen – as a child, one of my first projects was to teach my brother, who was four years old at the time, all of the square numbers! My love for Maths grew throughout my time at school, and I was lucky to have so many brilliant teachers who encouraged and challenged me along the way.

After completing my A levels, it was a natural progression for me to study Maths at The University of Warwick. Whilst at university, I spent some time teaching in South Africa, and it was at that point that I knew teaching was the career for me. I loved (and love to this day) the chance to make a difference, be creative, overcome challenges, get to know students, and watch their confidence and enjoyment in Maths grow.

Upon finishing my degree, I completed a PGCE and spent the next four years teaching in Secondary schools. During this time, I taught a wide variety of students aged 11-18. Alongside this, I was in charge of organising STEM activities for students, and I ran the Duke of Edinburgh programme. I was able to share my love of adventure and the outdoors with students whilst giving them the opportunity to learn so many life skills.

For the last six years, since having my two children, I have worked as a private Maths Tutor. This has given me the flexibility to be at home with my children whilst allowing me to continue teaching.

When I am not teaching, my children certainly keep me busy! We love being outdoors – walking, cycling, camping and spending as much time as we can on the beach.

My view of education was shaped at a very young age. As a child, I was frightened of Maths; I found it incomprehensible, and then at the age of eight, I met an outstanding teacher who showed me how to learn, and in doing so, taught me Maths. The lessons I learned then stayed with me throughout my education and led me to complete a degree in Management and Maths. Upon graduating, I moved to Romania and taught in a British International School. It was this experience that encouraged me to become a teacher. I always strive to be that outstanding teacher for each of my students.

I have been a teacher now for over ten years. I have taught Business, Economics and Maths in England, Romania and Thailand. I have spent the last eight years living in Thailand. I worked in a British International school as the Head of A level and Deputy Head of Secondary Level. I am now back in the UK, and I teach GCSE Maths part-time in a further education college.

I still love teaching today as much as I did when I first began. I love sharing my passion for my subjects with others, encouraging and helping others, and building working relationships. Teaching allows us to guide students to their own futures and teaches us new ideas, new cultures, and new ways of living along the way.

Outside of teaching, I love being with my children and family, knitting and crocheting, and travelling whenever possible.

I have been lucky in my career to have gained experience in both the pastoral and academic fields. This afforded me the experience of working with a huge variety of nationalities, cultures and learning styles. I returned to Scotland from Dubai five years ago; alongside supporting Wolsey Hall students, I’m also working part-time to support Mathematics in terms of Covid recovery and Numeracy. There is a need for support and understanding of student needs which I am proud to be a part of helping to address.

I have led curricular areas, but teaching is where my heart is. There is nothing more gratifying for me when I have helped someone learn and/or understand a topic. I always strive to make learning Mathematics more interesting and relevant. Mathematics sometimes needs to be put into a context that is relevant and personal to individuals. I do love that wow moment when a lightbulb goes off.

I am a visual and practical learner which means that I tend to be in tune with a student’s needs. I also listen and am more than happy to answer questions several times. I’ll find a way that works for the student. No question is too big or too small. Remember that sometimes we just need a simple key thing to make sense of what we’re doing. Always ask!!!

On a personal note, I am committed to my family and a new pup. The pup, Sorcha, takes a lot of my time in terms of training, exercise and bringing joy to people. (Myself included). She is a naughty little muppet, I mean Westie, who keeps us all on our toes and is a lot of fun to be around. Where would we be without our pets?

Greetings! I have been teaching Chemistry and Mathematics in England for 38 years. I’m friendly. helpful and always willing to give time and advice to students who are keen to learn.

I can promise you that no question that you want to ask will seem too simple or trivial. I’m known for my rapid response to queries and I am sure that we will quickly reach an effective and comfortable student-Tutor relationship.

I studied Chemistry at Sussex University, achieved a BSc (Hons) and went straight on to my PGCE teaching qualification. Over the next 28 years I taught GCSE and GCE A Level Chemistry and GCSE Mathematics in three 11-18 schools in the south of England, and had responsibility as Head of Chemistry and eventually Head of Science.

During this time I also studied for a second degree with the Open University, gaining a BA Hons in Pure Mathematics. This university, which is 45 years old, is open to all students with a desire to learn and achieve a degree and is a distance learning university. In those days we posted our assignments to a Tutor and waited two weeks to get them back! So you can see that I have experienced of what it is like to be a distance learning student!

Since my early retirement I have worked as a private Tutor in Chemistry and Mathematics and I mark A Level Chemistry examinations for both OCR in the UK and CIE. In fact I have a huge pile of exam scripts from many countries in the Far East waiting for my attention right now!

I have one daughter Jenny, who is about to graduate from her degree course in TV production and I now live in the beautiful historic city of Lincoln. From my house I can see the spires of Lincoln Cathedral and sometimes, as I sit at my desk, I can see the world famous Red Arrows air acrobatic team flying high above Lincolnshire as they practice their manoeuvres.
