Overview

Our Understanding the World – Getting Ready for Year 1 course helps your child explore the fascinating world around them. It encourages curiosity, questioning and discovery as they learn about people, places, nature and technology in meaningful, hands-on ways.

Through engaging topics and playful activities, your child will begin to notice patterns and changes in their environment, talk about what they see, and make simple observations about the world. They’ll also start to recognise similarities and differences between living things, communities and cultures, and learn how to care for the planet.

The course builds early enquiry and observation skills, supporting your child to think like a young scientist, geographer and historian. It lays a strong foundation for the wider Science, Geography and History learning they’ll meet in Year 1.

Additional information

Our courses are designed to be flexible, enabling you to tailor learning to your child’s individual needs and pace. You can work through the course materials in a way that suits your family, whether that's following a structured schedule or taking a more adaptable approach.

Requirements: Your child can begin at the year level that best reflects their current skills and maturity or at their age-equivalent year level. Our Admissions team can provide individual Level Placement Checks and tailored advice on which level is best to start your child’s learning journey.

Study method: A parent-guided course with structured learning content, including video resources to support reading, writing, speaking and listening activities. Expert Tutor feedback and a dedicated Student Progress Manager are included to help support your child’s progress.

Course samples for Primary courses

We provide course samples so you can explore our Primary courses before enrolling your child.

A course sample gives you a clear preview of the course structure, content, and level, helping you decide whether it is right for your child.

A course sample includes:

  • An overview of learning covered across the course.
  • Example lessons
  • The first assignment from the course
  • Information about learning materials and guidance

The course sample shows what the course would look like if your child were enrolled, helping you feel confident before moving on to making an enquiry or application.
