Overview

Our Years 3-6 Science courses are designed to spark your child’s natural curiosity — helping them explore the world around them and build the skills to ask questions, test ideas and think like a scientist.

The courses follow the Cambridge Primary Science Curriculum, using topics in Biology, Chemistry and Physics to help your child investigate, observe and think critically about how the world works.

Each year builds on the last, supporting their understanding through hands-on activities, practical experiments and everyday applications. From light and electricity to ecosystems, forces and materials, this course makes science meaningful and enjoyable for young learners.

You’ll guide your child’s learning at home using structured activities, with regular assignments marked by experienced Tutors. In Years 5 and 6, students can also take part in our optional Wolsey Hall Young Scientist investigations — encouraging deeper exploration for those eager to do more.

Additional information

Our courses are designed to be flexible, enabling you to tailor learning to your child’s individual needs and pace. You can work through the course materials in a way that suits your family, whether that's following a structured schedule or taking a more adaptable approach.

Year-by-year breakdown: Each year of the course is divided into three parts, each spanning 12 weeks of flexible lesson plans with regular assessed assignments, supporting steady progress at your child's own pace.

  • Year 3 – Plants, animals (including humans), rocks and soil, light, dark and magnets.
  • Year 4 – Skeletons and muscles, energy, solids, liquids and gases, volcanoes and earthquakes, day, night and light, electricity and circuits.
  • Year 5 – Living things and their habitats, animals (including humans), properties and changes of materials, earth and space, forces.
  • Year 6 – Living things and their habitats, animals (including humans), evolution and inheritance, light, electricity.

Requirements: Your child can begin at the year level  that best reflects their current skills and maturity or at their age-equivalent year level. Our Admissions team can provide individual Level Placement Checks and tailored advice on which level is best to start your child’s learning journey.

Equipment: To complete the course to the highest standard, your child will need access to a selection of basic science materials for home experiments. These are not included with the course and must be purchased separately.

Study method: A parent-guided course with structured learning content and practical science activities. Expert Tutor feedback and a dedicated Student Progress Manager are included to help support your child’s progress. Optional Wolsey Hall Young Scientist projects are available in Years 5 and 6 for those keen to explore further.

Course samples for Primary courses

We provide course samples so you can explore our Primary courses before enrolling your child.

A course sample gives you a clear preview of the course structure, content, and level, helping you decide whether it is right for your child.

A course sample includes:

  • An overview of learning covered across the course
  • Example lessons
  • The first assignment from the course
  • Information about learning materials and guidance

The course sample shows what the course would look like if your child were enrolled, helping you feel confident before moving on to making an enquiry or application.
