Homeschooling Fencer

Pedro’s story

Fourteen-year-old homeschooling fencer Pedro trains and competes successfully in fencing competitions worldwide. Here he explains why learning with Wolsey Hall is a great fit for him as he studies for his IGCSEs.

“I started fencing at nine years old and have been practicing for five years. This year the 2021 South American Youth Championship was held in Ibagué (Colombia) where athletes from all over South America participated and I obtained third place in the U15 category of Men’s Foil.”

Wolsey Hall Oxford supports a large number of homeschooling elite athletes from a variety of sports.

“This is my second year at Wolsey Hall and I enrolled in the school to enable me to meet my athletic and student goals without harming either of them. I train for 4-6 hours a day which is very demanding but thanks to the Wolsey Hall system I have been able to continue to receive a high quality education.”

“My favourite subjects are History and Physics. Studying the past makes me understand how to improve the future and I like Physics because I understand the universe and its forces.”

Future Plans

“I want to one day represent my country, Ecuador, in the Olympic or Pan American games and leave it in a prominent place. I would also like to apply for a student scholarship at a university to advance my studies in History or Physics and achieve a professional career related to these subjects.”
