Overview

Our Year 7-9 Latin & the Roman World courses will introduce your child to the fascinating ancient world of the Greeks and Romans, exploring why the ideas and politics of this time period were so influential. They will:

Discover the exciting stories of Roman gods and heroes.

Gain insights into ancient religion.

Begin to explore  Latin – an extremely influential ancient language in western history, literature and linguistics.

Studying this subject at Lower Secondary level will prepare your child for our IGCSE™ Latin course, as well as developing their understanding of the ancient world through a balanced mix of online and offline study that they can work through at their own pace.

Additional information

Our courses are designed to be flexible, enabling you to tailor learning to your child’s individual needs and pace. You can work through the course materials in a way that suits your family, whether that's following a structured schedule or taking a more adaptable approach.

Requirements:

Your child won’t need any previous knowledge to study our Lower Secondary Latin & The Roman World homeschooling courses, which start from the basics. However, they’ll need to be a confident reader to make the most of the rich cultural material in the course book, and they’ll need to be committed to exploring a grammatically complex language from scratch. If you’re enrolling for Year 8 or 9, your child will need to have studied Latin at Year 7 and 8 respectively.

Please note: Our Latin and The Roman World courses introduce students to both the Latin language and related cultural content, which means the coursebook contains images of artwork and sculptures from the Roman period. Some of these contain nudity. If you’re concerned about possible customs and import restrictions to your country on such material, please contact our Admissions team for advice.

Study method: A mix of online and offline study with structured content, designed for more independent learning. Expert Tutor feedback and a dedicated Student Progress Manager are included to help support your child’s progress.

Course samples for Lower Secondary courses

We provide course samples so you can explore our Lower Secondary courses before enrolling your child.

A course sample gives you a clear preview of the course structure, content, and level, helping you decide whether it is right for your child.

A course sample includes:

  • An overview of learning covered across the course
  • Example lessons
  • The first assignment from the course
  • Information about learning materials and guidance

The course sample shows what the course would look like if your child were enrolled, helping you feel confident before moving on to making an enquiry or application.
