Our year 7-9 Music Appreciation homeschooling courses introduce your child to the joy of music. These engaging courses are designed for children who aren’t interested in music theory and don’t want to play a musical instrument or perform, but would like to deepen their appreciation of different genres of music. Your child will:
Studying Music Appreciation at Lower Secondary level helps your child to understand and enjoy a variety of music through a balanced mix of online and offline study that they can work through at their own pace.
These courses contain elements of the Cambridge Lower Secondary Music Curriculum, but it’s bespoke to Wolsey Hall Oxford, as it’s been written specifically for students who want to learn how to appreciate music instead of performing or composing.
Our courses are designed to be flexible, enabling you to tailor learning to your child’s individual needs and pace. You can work through the course materials in a way that suits your family, whether that's following a structured schedule or taking a more adaptable approach.
Requirements: Your child won’t need any previous knowledge of music theory to take these courses, and we don’t expect them to be learning an instrument or taking singing lessons.
Study method: A mix of online and offline study with structured content, designed for more independent learning. Expert Tutor feedback and a dedicated Student Progress Manager are included to help support your child’s progress.

We provide course samples so you can explore our Lower Secondary courses before enrolling your child.
A course sample gives you a clear preview of the course structure, content, and level, helping you decide whether it is right for your child.
A course sample includes:
The course sample shows what the course would look like if your child were enrolled, helping you feel confident before moving on to making an enquiry or application.
