Overview

Our Primary Phonics course is designed to support children aged 5 to 6 (Year 1) and 6 to 8 (Years 2–3) who need a bit of extra help with phonics — particularly those who may find spelling or reading longer words challenging.

This self-paced course follows a structured, systematic approach to synthetic phonics — teaching your child how to hear, identify and blend the sounds of spoken English, and pair them with the correct letters or letter combinations.

By improving their phonics skills, your child will build greater confidence in reading unfamiliar words and spelling correctly.

The course is designed for self-study and does not include assignments or Tutor feedback and must be taken alongside any full-length Wolsey Hall Oxford course.

Additional information

Requirements: Designed for children with gaps in their understanding of phonics, or as a support course for those studying outside Wolsey Hall. This course is only available to students enrolled in at least one full-length Wolsey Hall course.

Study method: A parent-guided, self-paced course with structured, step-by-step learning content. Includes no Tutor interaction or assignments, but full support is provided through easy-to-follow materials and a clear learning pathway.
