Homeschooling in Ireland

Wolsey Hall Oxford has seen a steady rise in the number of families homeschooling in Ireland. We support students from Primary and Secondary age on the English national curriculum through to IGCSE and A levels.

The majority of our IGCSE and A level courses follow the Cambridge board. CAIE qualifications are recognised by top universities in the UK and around the world.

Once children in Ireland reach six years old, they are required to be in education. If you wish to homeschool you need to register your intention with TUSLA the Child and Welfare Agency which gives detailed advice including a comprehensive application form.

Many parents home educating in Ireland find following a structured curriculum makes the process of homeschooling much easier.

How the UK education system works

During the lockdown I got very bored and didn’t have much to do. Now I look forward to my art lessons every Friday and it means I can work on my art all weekend as well if I want to. I have really enjoyed this course. The video lessons are very easy to follow and I have learned so many new skills. Paula makes it look easy. I love using new materials and techniques. Sometimes the skills are very hard. It is ok to make mistakes as long as you are getting better. I am very proud of my work. I can’t wait until the next unit, it looks like so much fun!

Our experience with Wolsey Hall Oxford has been excellent! Ella is thriving on her Primary homeschooling courses. She is enjoying the creativeness of the English programme and how it allows learning while bringing in her own interests such as a biography on her favourite author.
