Homeschooling in Singapore

Primary and Secondary homeschooling courses

Wolsey Hall Oxford is delighted to support a growing number of families homeschooling in Singapore. Our students homeschooling in Singapore study a variety of courses spanning Primary, Secondary, IGCSE and A level.

Families homeschooling in Singapore are both Singaporean and expatriate and choose homeschooling for a variety of reasons. Many find the increased flexibility of homeschooling allows their children time to pursue other interests. Some prefer homeschooling as a cost-effective alternative to an International School, whilst others choose Wolsey Hall courses to supplement regular schooling and give their children an educational advantage.

Please see our Guide to Singapore school grades compared to the Wolsey Hall levels.

Legal requirements

Singaporean parents must apply for a Compulsory Education exemption. This will require them to provide several details including their planned curriculum. Regular progress reports are also required.

Singaporean children homeschooling in Singapore will be required to sit the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) in four subjects (English Language, Second Language, Mathematics and Science) at Standard Level and an additional test at Primary 4.

Expatriate families do not legally have to send their children to school in Singapore.

Singapore President SR Nathan

We are proud to include Singapore President SR Nathan as one of our former students. He studied with Wolsey Hall Oxford for his Cambridge School Certificate achieving a Grade II in 1951. In those days he had to send his assignments by post and often had to wait two weeks to have his assignments marked.

Today, thanks to the internet, students homeschooling in Singapore can study course modules, submit assignments and communicate with Tutors online. And our Tutors return assignments within 3-5 working days – something SR Nathan could have only dreamed about!
