Business and Economics are dynamic subjects, requiring you to be aware of, and inquisitive about the world around you. They are exciting subjects to study, allowing you to develop your understanding of the way economies work, focusing on businesses that interest you, while developing the skills of analysis and evaluation. Having a clear understanding of how businesses work and the skills to assess and make strategic, balanced judgements will help you succeed in business in the future.
I grew up in a family of business people, so it was no surprise that I went onto university to study Accountancy and Human Resource Management upon leaving school. With my degree completed, I worked in various businesses ranging from banking to community development, to software development. I then retrained as a teacher, and ever since then I have specialised in teaching Economics and Business Studies at IGCSE and A Level.
I have been teaching for over 15 years now, and I love the variety it brings. I have been a teacher, a pastoral Tutor, a Head of Department and an enrichment coordinator, career lead, academic tutor and an examiner at both GCSE and A Level. I also Tutor online and on holiday revision courses.
I live in Donegal, Ireland, and when I am not teaching or tutoring, I take full advantage of the natural beauty of the area by being a keen walker, swimmer and cyclist. Recently I have taken up golf which is proving a little trickier than I had thought!
I am delighted to be part of the Wolsey Hall Oxford Tutor team, and I look forward to sharing my passion for Business, Economics and learning while supporting you through your course.

Business Studies and Geography are interesting subjects that explain many notions about the world. They both contain current and important topics and issues related to climate change, migration, economic geography and forecasting, ethics, and sustainable development.
I have always been fascinated by studying Business Studies and Geography, which led me to gain a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Management and then progress onto achieving a PGCE in Post Compulsory Education and Training and another PGCE in Secondary Geography. I recently completed a Masters in Education (Geography) at the University College of London, where I demonstrated an understanding of the literature and concepts of geography education. There I advanced my professional skills and recognised the curriculum development and the practical application of high-quality geography in schools and study research methods within geography education.
I have been teaching a combination of Business Studies and Geography subjects for the past 20 years in Sixth Form and Further Education Colleges, and secondary and online schools. In between my teaching career, I am an examiner for Business Studies. Throughout my teaching career, I have been equipped to support students by encouraging active learning, providing them with choices in all kinds of scenarios, providing models for activities, applying proven strategies, encouraging participation, teaching self-management and independence, and reinforcing skills that apply to everyday circumstances.
The main reason that I am drawn to working with students online is to focus and pay more attention to their individual needs. Teaching in a traditional classroom setting can be distracting, which results in students losing interest. My main aim through teaching is to see the smile on students’ faces when they unexpectedly understand a new skill. It is to see students, who think they can’t do something, suddenly realise that all things are possible, and to share knowledge that pupils may not know, learning new things along with my pupils. I want to inspire the next generation to have a true passion for Business Studies and Geography while constantly keeping up to date with issues around the subjects.
When I am not teaching, I enjoy new challenges, socialising with family and friends and reading books based on crime and real-life stories. My main passion would be to travel the world and explore new cities and cultures.

Business and Economics underpins the economic factors that influence firms’ decision-making, how they react to changes in the economy and how human behaviour changes based on demand and supply. Seeing students develop and enjoy an understanding of concepts and topics, then achieving and excelling in their exams, has always been the highlight of my career.
I qualified with a degree in Business and Economics and went on to work in industry whilst completing an Accounting course. I then worked as an Accountant for several years. Although I enjoyed working in industry, my passion had always been to move into teaching; therefore, I went back to university to complete a postgraduate degree in Education.
I am currently the Head of Sixth Form in a Secondary school and lead on Economics and Business, teaching both GCSE and A Level. Through my role as Head of Sixth Form, I have supported students in different subjects and built professional relationships with many students in the school. The best thing I have gained from working with these students is to see them succeed in what they are passionate about. Every year, I see students apply to university and apprenticeships, and there is nothing more worthwhile than watching them receive offers from their first choice of university or workplace.
As well as being a teacher, I am an examiner for a variety of exam boards in England and have marked both the English and IAL exams. Although being an examiner can be challenging, it is also rewarding because it has helped me develop my teaching ability and increase the help I can provide to my students.
Outside of work, I enjoy hosting dinner parties and love spending time with my friends and family. As much as I love working, having the ability to spend time with my three gorgeous children and husband is always the highlight of my weekend.

I am a qualified secondary teacher of Computer Science, Business Studies and Economics, with around 20 years of teaching experience. Prior to teaching, in 1998, I graduated from Oxford Brookes University and then worked in the IT industry in London for five years, initially for a fine art auction house and later in the IT European Projects team at a recruitment company.
In 2003 I progressed to teacher training and moved from London to Exeter. I graduated with a PGCE as a specialist ICT teacher and embarked on my teaching career at a comprehensive school on the South Coast of England in Dorset. More recently, I received a Secondary computer science teaching certification from the British Computing society. I taught ICT and Business studies and gained Qualified Teacher Status(QTS) in 2004. Since then, my family and I have lived in the UK, USA, Ascension Island, Sweden and Romania. I have experience of working in many school settings both in the UK and abroad; these include a high-performance comprehensive, an independent boarding school, and various international schools.
I have experience teaching Computer science from primary school to upper secondary, Economics and Business Studies in various school settings, and have promoted creative enterprise in schools through various initiatives. Along with diverse teaching and tutoring experience, I am also an assessment specialist with Cambridge international examinations.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing and listening to classical and contemporary music, reading and studying, rowing and boats.
My diverse experience has helped me to become a versatile educator, aiming to bring out the best in my students. I strive to approach tutoring with patience and kindness and firmly believe in the opportunities Wolsey Hall blended learning and home-schooling offers students worldwide. Children from various backgrounds and situations can receive a high-quality education here, and I look forward to helping Wolsey Hall students to fulfil their potential.

On leaving University, my first career was in Banking where I spent some fifteen years. I then retrained as a teacher and ever since then I have specialised in teaching Economics and Business Studies at A level. I teach also at GCSE/IGCSE Level.
My career has taken me to some wonderful schools, notably Sherborne Girls, Canford and Cheltenham Ladies. Many of my students have enjoyed considerable success, including going on to Oxford and Cambridge. I am currently teaching part-time at the Maynard School in Exeter. I am also an A level Examiner. In recent years I have been specialising in revision tuition both online and on holiday revision courses.
Above all else, I am passionate about getting students to see the real world relevance of what they are studying. Economics and Business are both subjects that provide students with skills that are very relevant to their professional careers, and I look forward to sharing my passion with Wolsey Hall Oxford students.
I live in beautiful West Dorset with my family and three Labrador dogs. My hobbies include philately (I am a member of the Royal Philatelic Society, London) Football (I’m a lifelong Southampton supporter, which explains why I sometimes look a bit depressed on a Monday morning!), gardening and reading.

My early career was in the banking industry undertaking a range of roles within the Lloyds Banking Group. During this time, I gained qualifications with the Chartered Institute of Bankers and additionally a Higher National Certificate in Business. This time spent working in the industry allows me to contextualise my teaching with a range of real examples. Whilst working in banking, I found myself working in training and it was this experience that inspired me to retrain as a teacher of Business. Whilst still working for the bank, I also attended university gaining a BA in Business Education with QTS allowing me to move into teaching in 2000.
I worked for twelve years in the state sector teaching Business and some ICT as well as quickly being promoted to Assistant Director of Sixth Form Studies. During this time, I was rated as outstanding by Ofsted on two occasions, once for my teaching and once for my management. Over the last six years, I have worked predominantly in the independent sector, most recently at the prestigious Durham School.
I have many years’ experience as an A Level examiner and I am currently both an A Level Business examiner and a Level 3 BTEC National examiner.
I also have a wealth of experience as a private tutor, therefore, I am skilled at working with students on a one to one basis.
My main hobby is following my favourite football team. Both my six-year-old daughter and I have season tickets at the Stadium of Light.
I’m looking forward very much to working as your Tutor for this fascinating subject.

Welcome to Wolsey Hall Oxford! I love learning and am excited to facilitate your learning journey. I have lots of experience teaching both Business Studies and Sociology. I began teaching these subjects at GCSE and A level in 2005 and continue to work part-time in a local secondary school. For seven years, I was Subject Leader for Sociology, and I have been an examiner for Cambridge International since 2015, so I am extremely familiar with the Cambridge International syllabuses.
I consider myself to be a life-long learner. Since completing my BA (Hons) and PGCE, I have undertaken several postgraduate courses and am working towards completing a Masters. Completing a Masters has enabled me to combine knowledge of Business and Sociology, for example, taking the sociological perspective of postmodernism and using this perspective to explore organisational leadership styles.
Before becoming a teacher, I spent five years working in banking and life assurance which inspired me to begin studying Business Management at university. In addition, my husband and I are directors of a limited company, so I have practical experience of the setting up and running of a business as well as the theoretical underpinnings learnt in my undergraduate degree.
I am passionate about raising awareness of the many inequalities present within society. I have three sons (including two teenagers) and have greatly enjoyed introducing them to feminist theories!
When not teaching, tutoring, studying or parenting, I enjoy swimming as much as possible (although in an indoor swimming pool – I am not brave enough for sea swimming in the cold Irish Sea that surrounds where I live!)
