Assessments & exams
Exams
This course is a UK qualification, and you can only take your exams in May or June each year. Some overseas/international exam centres offer Edexcel exams, but not all offer GCSE Psychology. If you’re based outside the UK, we recommend that you contact your nearest exam centre directly to find out if your child will be able to sit their exams there for this course.
This course will assess your child’s understanding across two papers:
Paper 1: This paper covers Development, Memory, Psychological Problems, The Brain and Neuropsychology, and Social Influence, and lasts for 1 hour and 45 minutes, accounting for 55% of the overall grade. Your child may also be tested on their knowledge of investigations from Research Methods.
Paper 2: This paper covers Research Methods, Criminal Psychology, and Sleep and Dreaming, and lasts for 1 hour and 20 minutes, accounting for 45% of the overall grade. There are a mix of questions including calculations, multiple choice, short-open, open-response, and one extended open-response.
Mock exams
All of our GCSE Level courses include a number of past exam papers in the final module to support students’ learning. This includes the most recent paper, which can be taken as a mock exam and submitted to the course Tutor for feedback for an additional fee.

In 2024, our GCSE Level students achieved a pass rate of 72% at A*-C grade, with 23% achieving grades A* to A across all their courses.

I absolutely love education in all the forms that it takes. Following my Masters in Educational Research Methods, I became a researcher at the University of Hertfordshire on a project that evaluated the impact of the ‘Aimhigher’ widening participation programme in schools. After I had been ‘on the side lines’ looking into schools, I was desperate to get in and start training as a classroom teacher myself, so I completed a PGCE in 2007 at the Institute of Education in London.
I have been teaching Psychology for over 13 years and started my career working in inner-city London schools. I have been an examiner for A Level Psychology for most of that time and have thoroughly enjoyed being part of the examining process. I also teach Health and Social Care, and I am the centre coordinator for the EPQ at the school I currently teach in.
Psychology as a discipline is a passion of mine, and I regularly read up to date research around the subject as a member of the British Psychological Society. To be able to combine that with introducing students to the subject is a joy, and I have been lucky to have inspired students to go on to study Psychology at university. Working with young people on a day to day basis is an absolute privilege, and studying a subject that I am also so fond of, really is the dream!
I am lucky to now live in the beautiful, rural county of Northumberland where I enjoy all that the area has to offer with fantastic beaches and forests on my doorstep. In my spare time, I love travelling with my family to Europe and have enjoyed recent camping holidays in Germany, France, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

I think I’ve always been interested in Psychology and Sociology. I could read and write when I was three years old and set about learning as much as I could about the world around me and all the different people in it. I realised that we are all different, even when our lives appear similar, and I wanted to understand why that was.
My degree in Psychology and Sociology at Leeds University was the beginning of my fascination with the science of mind and behaviour. After that, the logical next step was to share my love for the subject as a teacher.
I began in 1992 with five students at a large inner-city comprehensive school and developed the course until almost half of the students in my Sixth Form took A Level Psychology. Until a few years ago, my life was centred on teaching and learning – I supported students in being the best they could be, overcoming barriers to reach their potential, as well as teachers to become effective in the classroom. I believe what Carl Rogers said, “that a person cannot teach another person directly; a person can only facilitate another’s learning” and that is what I have always done my best to do.
When I reached 50, I decided to take the Gap Year so many of my students had experienced. I did all the usual things, travelling around Namibia, volunteering and then managing a local charity shop and indulging my love of live music. I missed teaching though, and decided to become a Tutor to keep sharing my passion for Psychology and Sociology. I combine this with my role as a Food Tour guide in Harrogate and York, taking small groups to local independent restaurants and bars to taste international and vegan food and wine. The rest of my time is spent with my beloved bull terrier, Bootsie, enjoying the beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire where I live.

I am a self-proclaimed bookworm. In fact, my family and I seem to live under a mountain of books! I love writing, reading, studying and researching. I have published a number of articles, study guides and educational courses on a range of subjects within the fields of Psychology and English Literature.
I first chose Psychology as one of my own A Level subjects at sixth form college. Having never studied it before I found the subject fascinating and was keen to continue studying at university. In fact, my love of Psychology has continued throughout my life.
My educational background consists of a BA Joint Honours degree in English and Psychology. I have been a qualified teacher for 10 years and over this time have garnered a wealth of experience teaching KS3, KS4 and KS5. It was in my first teaching role that I was given the opportunity to set up and run my own A level Psychology Department. My passion for Psychology and independent study enabled me to complete my PhD alongside my teaching commitments. My thesis focused on the author Virginia Woolf and the psychological elements that shaped her work including her own well-documented mental health problems. She not only expanded the conception of the novel but she also left nearly 4,000 letters and 30 volumes of a diary. A psychological analysis of these private letters and diary entries provided fascinating insights into the mind of this rather troubled artist.
I currently teach English Literature (KS3, KS4, KS5 and university level) and Psychology (KS4, KS5 and university level) to a number of international pupils in Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Italy via Skype, as well as to students in all parts of the UK.
When I am not tutoring, I love to spend time playing in the park with my son. I also enjoy going to the gym and cycling. I am patient, friendly and professional and easy to get on with. I have worked as a teacher of Psychology, Sociology & Thinking Skills since 2002. After completing my BSc in Psychology & Sociology, I began teaching A-Level Psychology at various sixth form colleges in Surrey. During this time, I completed my teaching qualification at Greenwich University.
Throughout my teaching career I have worked in the UK and overseas, in Oman. Whilst overseas, I taught International Baccalaureate (IB), including English, Humanities and Theory of Knowledge. Furthermore, I am a qualified Life Coach and Nutritional Therapist. Since 2019 I have worked as an online tutor, supporting students with Psychology/Sociology and providing academic coaching support. I also work as an A Level and GCSE examiner.
I have a passion for teaching my subjects; they cover fascinating and engaging topics that enable us to understand the world, and the people, around us. Psychology is such a valuable subject as it extends core skills in writing, scientific enquiry and mathematical analysis. In addition, Thinking Skills is a fantastic subject to develop robust skills for both higher education and future employment. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills are integral for success in many aspects of life. I am also hugely interested in the process of learning, understanding how to encourage and nurture dispositions towards learning that build academic success and independence.
I live in Dorking with my husband and two children; it is a quaint market town in Surrey famous for its Olympic cycle route and gigantic chicken statue.

Best Choice For Homeschooling
Before we made the decision to take the homeshooling route, we talked to friends with homeschooled children and were largely unimpressed. We scoured the internet and came across Wolsey. It seemed to be the one that best matched our daughter's Cambridge system education at that point. We're glad we ultimately went the Wolsey route. The flexibility of homeschooling suited us perfectly, the course materials are of high quality, and SPM Kristina and the tutors are a delight to work with. Contrary to our initial reservations, homeschooling with Wolsey actually helped our daughter become a more independent, confident and disciplined student, things which will help her immensely when she goes to university. Outstanding Support and Education for Our Child in Kenya

Great experience
My son only had 12 months instead of 2 academic years to prepare for his IGCSEs so we decided that attending an online school was going to be the best solution to help him achieve his plan of preparing for his IGCSEs in a short amount of time. Our experience with Wolsey Hall has been excellent and I would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to study for their IGCSEs remotely. Relaxed learning
My son, Bilal, who is turning 11 years old, started home schooling with Wolsey 3 years ago(Year3). We are so happy and content with the support we receive from the SPMs and the tutors. We have now been able to perfect a learning system for Bilal. He has been able to catch up his Math course which we started a year behind(Year 2) in comparison with the other subjects. Bilal's elder brother, Omar is also home schooling with Wolsey from year 8 and is now in his IGCSE years. Like Bilal, he started off German a year behind(Year 7) and has been able to catch up with the other subjects. We are looking forward to a bright and, more importantly, a relaxed learning experience with Wolsey.

Excellent
Wolsey Hall Oxford has been a fantastic experience for my daughters. They did one year in primary during COVID, and my eldest daughter re-enrolled in Year 9. She found studying independently and at her own pace more constructive. She has also acquired many skills that have assisted her learning. The resources provided are varied and abundant and the tutors are professional and competent. Our Student Progress Manager was extremely supportive and continued to motivate my daughter throughout the year. We will be continuing with Wolsey Hall Oxford for the IGSCE courses. Great experience throughout my school years
I have been with Wolsey since I started KS3, and I'm now going to start my final year of A levels. All throughout my time, the tutors have been fantastic and the feedback I got from them on my assignments have been good, as well as communication if I needed any additional help. Excellent well established online school
When we were looking for a UK government approved home school for our daughter aged 15 Wolsey Hall oxford stood out to us from the start being one of the most experienced online home schools it made it a reassuring logical choice when our daughter changed from attending a physical school at the start of year 10. From our initial information zoom call we were really impressed with the online learning platform canvas and the range of GCSEs and the whole ethos and set up of the online school seemed quite straightforward and easy to use, when we signed up for our daughters GCSEs courses each subject course book arrived with us so fast then we all had some time to navigate and get used to canvas the online learning platform our daughter picked it up fast next we all met with her assigned student support manager Erica who has been a wonderful support to our daughter and to us too we all can contact Erica and she keeps in regular contact with our daughter having a super friendly point of contact like Erica with whom we can communicate with so easily has been so helpful in our home schooling journey she helps my daughter with extensions for assignments if she is struggling and she really encourages our daughter with positive and constructive feedback which really helps her mindset. The subject tutors are easy to reach if you have any questions you just feel less alone with Wolsey hall my daughter has become such an independent learner and is now so organised and is learning that reaching out for help is something she can now do without feeling so worried or anxious as Erica and all the tutors have been so kind and reassuring to her she wants to do her best and a huge weight has been lifted off her shoulders since she started at Wolsey hall oxford our daughter is so much happier and is far less anxious I'm so grateful to Wolsey hall for all the help and support they constantly provide my daughter is actually now looking forward to subjects she once disliked at school and is enjoying her Igcses and different subject challenges and it is so very wonderful to see her passionate and so engaged in her learning again thank you wolsey hall for making this transition to online learning so straightforward for us all

The Right Choice

Excellent school
Excellent school I transferred my daughter to Wolsey Hall 2 years ago after she found online classes had improved her studies and helped deal with anxiety better. Following that, she started IGCSEs, and the amount of support and flexibility we have received have been tremendous. There have been many personal problems along the way which hindered her studies but her SPM has supported us throughout the way. She has learnt and grown so much. Great tutors and SPM. Definitely recommend! We are leaving now but it’s been a great journey.

Tailor made, no stress, available anywhere
My son (15 years old) has been studying with Wolsey Hall for 4 years now. He started as Year 7 student and now he is preparing for his IGCSE having very successfully passed one exam already. For us Wolsey Hall turned out to be the perfect choice as we previously had lived in a different, not English speaking country, and wanted our child to have an international level education. We moved to a new country during these 4 years and got through COVID 19 restrictions without any impact on our child’s education. It was not interrupted or hampered in any way. The programme is tailor made: you can choose any combination of subjects. The school is using the best textbooks and an excellent easy navigational educational platform with clear explanations what and how to do it. The courses have a lot of additional materials available in each and every topic with brilliant explanations and relevant experiments. You have introductory Skype calls with the tutors and your Student progress manager all of whom are invariably extremely inspiring and motivational. Your Student progress manager sends you and your child a monthly report on the child’s progress highlighting any issues if any/ praising the hard work and excellent results and reminding your child of any further steps to be taken in relation to revision, etc. The child studies independently and he has a schedule of assignments on each subject to be adhered to. The tutors are available for any questions/doubts and respond promptly to any queries the child might have during the course. The tutors mark the assignments and provide detailed feedbacks. You can find a lot of advice on the platform as to how to organize the studies. The school has loads of extracurricular activities and clubs. They have a University advice team as well. My child is really happy we chose Wolsey Hall as this child-friendly, no stress school equips you with the necessary knowledge without any pressure. Studying with Wolsey is pure joy and positive experience motivating the child to look forward to further education.

iGCSE Coordinated Sciences (double award) "AA" Result
Our son received his Cambridge Coordinated Science iGCSE (Double Award) results yesterday with an "AA" - and we are so thankful to Wolsey Hall!! Having already completed a year of his iGCSEs in a school overseas and then us unexpectedly moving back to the UK last summer, we found ourselves needing tailored support for a subject both my husband and I (both teachers) were unable to support at all!! His progress manager devised a bespoke plan to keep our son focused and on track so we didn't have to worry about his Science at all. His experienced tutor provided fast turnaround on assignment feedback which was incredibly helpful for him to work on his gaps, and then recommended past paper revision on the run up to the exams. Having reviewed his previous school report, he was on target for B in the sciences, yet thanks to standard of resources, assessment and motivation from Wolsey, his grades have been pulled up to AA!! I am very happy I chose Wolsey Hall for my daughter's IGCSE's. I had to remove her from school due to not getting the support she needed for her dyslexia. With Wolsey Hall, the courses are taken step by step, we had full support from their SENCO, who we met online on numerous occassions and who offered very helpful advice. We were assigned a Student Progress Manager right from the start, who we were able to email and get assistance from all the way through, and who offered online meetings whenever we needed them. We also met with all of my daughters tutors, who offered excellent support and guidance throughout.

Consistently efficient and professional
My son completed year 8 courses with Wolsey Hall and my daughter did 6 subjects at IGCSE level. We have been delighted by the amazingly efficient and professional service provided by Wolsey Hall, and the level of learning. We have had experience with other home school providers, and the kids have friends studying through other platforms and they simply do not compare. We were hugely appreciative of the consistent support and encouragement we got from our student progress managers (Jennie and then Angela). We also really like the balance that Wolsey Hall strike between conventional textbook learning and digital content. Both my kids were delighted to consistently recieve marks in the 80's and 90's, and my daughter is delighted with A's in her first two subjects written at IGCSE (English lang and lit), she found she was well prepared by the courses, and that her course work was suitably challenging that the exams were if anything comparatively slightly easier. Amazing! No need to sweat!
Having been with Wolsey Hall for 4 years has been a very pleasant journey from choosing IGCSEs to applying for the final exams, to participating in clubs. Throughout this time there has been support and guidance from the whole team at Wolsey. Our SPM (student progress manager) for the higher secondary school has been exceptional and has everything covered, from monthly reviews, advice, answering queries to being friendly, approachable and encouraging and most importantly having the ability to interact with a teenager. Tutors at Wolsey cannot be faltered. They encourage, inspire and their comments address all areas from strengths to weaknesses and how to improve and move forward. Best of all they are approachable and willing to help your child to do the best they can. Along with great tutors, Wolsey Hall has excellent interactive structured courses with access to multiple websites and quizzes. The UK exams officer at Wolsey has been absolutely amazing and made the process of applying for IGCSEs stress free. We can honestly say Wolsey have everything covered from start to finish and the whole experience has actually been a pleasant one. Everyone at Wolsey Hall have been amazing and truly we are grateful for all the help, support and kindness Thank you so much!

Excellent for home schooling.
My older son took several IGCSEs with Wolsey Hall and now my younger son is coming to the end of year 9 with them. We have found the school to be very good, they are quick to respond and helpful with any queries and the tutors are all friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The system has worked very well for us, giving a good structured curriculum but also the flexibility to study when we want. They have also been very helpful with the exam organisation, particularly during the pandemic, when it was all rather chaotic! I would definitely recommend Wolsey Hall and we will be continuing with them for IGCSEs next year.

A wonderful online school
My son had previously been going to a very good state school where he gained a great deal academically, but when he moved to Wolsey Hall Oxford during the pandemic, he was able to go at his own pace and thoroughly cover the subject matter for his eight iGCSEs, furthering his knowledge and developing a love of learning. He has very much enjoyed his experience with Wolsey Hall Oxford, which has prepared him to go into the Canadian education system with ease. Not only is the material excellent quality, for each of the subjects, but his progress manager, Pat, has been wonderful and always there to support us; all his tutors have been amazing, giving feedback instantly; and his online tutoring lessons with David for Science have been exceptional. It has been a privilege to have my son studying with you. Thank you Wolsey Hall Oxford!

Amazing IGCSE Tutoring and Support
I was a student with Wolsey Hall Oxford for a year and a half whilst studying for my IGCSEs and I loved it. Their way of teaching and independent study gives you the choice of when to study and how to plan your studying around your life, activities or movement. Wolsey's teachers are all supportive, helpful, and give thorough feedback on your past mistakes, and really help you to achieve the grades that you can. I got 3 A*s 3 As 2 Bs and 1 C, a huge improvement from my past studies. I would recommend Wolsey Hall Oxford to everyone who's living abroad and needing British education or home schooling in the UK. You can't go wrong with Wolsey.

From my daughter's point of view in her words: I’ve been with Wolsey Hall for two years – previously I used a different program to homeschool – and am now starting iGCSEs and the experience has been excellent. Everything is well organized and highly professional, making it easy to work, and the tutors are extremely friendly and helpful. Wolsey’s program ensures that you learn to work independently and manage your time by yourself, very important skills to acquire early. Most importantly for me, however, is that Wolsey makes schooling enjoyable. By structuring their courses the way they do, and giving students a degree of freedom to find what works for them, Wolsey allows the fun of learning to prevail. I have fun with school – and if you enjoy learning, you automatically learn better! All in all, I would not hesitate to immediately recommend Wolsey to anyone, provided they are willing to self-motivate. From a parent’s point of view: I am absolutely thrilled with the way Wolsey is doing the courses. Everything is clearly explained, excellently structured and the tutors are highly qualified, extremely helpful and professional. We have never had any problems and the feedback is always detailed and easy to understand. The same goes for any other staff, starting from the administrative staff who make the enrolling process very easy, the finance department and of course the student progress manager. We had several changes in our schedule over the years due to moving or spontaneous holidays, it was never a problem and Jessie, our student progress manager, thank you, has always responded quickly and accommodated our needs. Our daughter has learned to work independently and, as she said above, enjoys school. That for me says it all, what better recommendation is there? I do think it is important that as a parent you get involved to a certain extent, even if it is just to help with keeping on track or bouncing ideas. I also want to address the one issue that keeps coming up with prospective homeschoolers: the worry of parents that their children have no social interactions, which I had in the beginning as well. For us that worked out, my daughter dances 4 times a week and has a lot of social contacts. For those who don’t have that opportunity, Wolsey has an online student forum and several online activities to cover that side as well, which I have not seen from other homeschooling providers and find absolutely brilliant. I would 100% recommend Wolsey to anyone who thinks about a different and individual approach to learning and have done so in person to several friends.

Excellent Resources and Support
I moved my son to homeschooling Wolsey during the pandemic last year. His school only offered online learning which did not suit him. Wolsey's resources for IGCSE Physics are excellent. He was able to self pace his learning whilst he received very good support from his tutor when needed. He completed the Physics course in 7 months and received a very good result. Thank you so much Wolsey.

A great learning experience
My son wanted to add a further GCSE to his list, so tried his hand at Psychology. He completed this over one year and I’m pleased to say received a grade 9. We found the whole process easy and well set out. Over the twelve months he was given assignments that challenged him and gave him the skill set to feel confident in the exam. My sons teacher was always available to give advice if he was struggling and his pastoral advisor was nothing short of wonderful. Our experience of Wolsey Hall Oxford was an extremely positive one.

Wolsey Hall - an outstanding online school
My son has just started his second year with Wolsey Hall and completed 3 IGCSE's in one year, all of which he passed with very good grades. He will continue with a further 4 subjects this year. His tutors have been incredible, their feedback is swift, thorough and professional, and they all make a huge effort to ensure that my son is supported throughout the assignments. All learning material is of an exceptional standard. His Student Progress Manager, Juliet Franks, is absolutely amazing! Her attention to detail and continued assistance has been greatly appreciated and we are delighted to have her continued support. Exceptional online school
My 2 daughters have been exclusively home schooled from the start, and Wolsey Hall Oxford is the 3rd (and last) school we have enrolled them at. They have been with Wolsey Hall for about 4 years now, and as a homeschooling family, we are very happy to have such an outstanding school supporting our daughters in their educational journey. The material made available for study ie textbooks, online resources, the remarkable Ms Nicola Timbrell, and notable tutor assistance aided our daughters in getting good results. We are overjoyed with our younger girl's May/June 2021 IGCSE results where she sat for 5 subjects, and got 5 As - 4 of them A*s. Thank you Wolsey Hall Oxford!

Excellent support for self-paced learning

A wonderful experience
Our three children spent 2 years studying with Wolsey Hall for their IGCSE and had a wonderful experience. Their IGCSE results are outstanding which is due to their hard work and the support and standard of education from Wolsey Hall. The children learnt how to manage their own study time and gained independence while at the same time having great support when needed from their wonderful Student Progress Manager Rona, and their subject tutors. Through the Covid pandemic their education was not interrupted and they were able to study as normal. Our children have gained so much from their time studying with Wolsey Hall and we will be forever grateful for the support and the extremely high quality of education.

Excellent
I did Chemistry, Physics and a Computer Science IGCSE with Wolsey Hall. This way of learning really suited me and is extremely flexible. My Progress Manager (Tina Nourse) and Tutors were amazing and really helpful, and mostly replied within 1 day maximum. It's a shame they require GCSE Maths, English and subject specific requirements for their A Level Courses, otherwise I would have definitely done Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths A Level Courses with them.

Excellent Learning Organisation
Wolsey Hall sets a high standard, is accomodating and flexible with an understanding that each child's learning needs and pace will be different. The programs are comprehensive and provide a great learning framework that can be navigated independently by students or with the guidance of parents. My daughter enrolled in 2017 (she was 13), she is a musician, school work fits around her music. She is always engaged in learning and over her period of enrolment, she has become more academic and developed a natural determination to obtain formal learning credentials. Wolsey has always been available to discuss progress and provide guidance around subject choices - they are very organized and always up to date with the curriculum for the IGCSE.

I am very happy with the way the IGCSE…
I am very happy with the way the IGCSE program is being orchestrated for my daughter at Wolsey Hall. I am impressed with the structure, the faculty support and the overall framework. Exceptional Experience
My daughter is an American student studying with Wolsey Hall. I knew very little about the Cambridge curriculum when my daughter began her IGCSE studies, but Wolsey Hall has made every effort to help both of us along the way. Their tutors are excellent, the materials they offer are thorough and I cannot say enough good things about their support staff. My daughter achieved very high marks on her IGCSE exams and is now studying A levels with Wolsey Hall. I highly recommend them for anyone wanting an exceptional learning experience.

I would recommend Wolsey Hall Oxford to anyone considering homeschooling. Each course has plenty of resources on canvas and the course books are very informative. Any questions or help that we needed (preparing and arranging exams etc) have always been dealt with by the friendly tutors and student progress manager. Wolsey is great!
I have been studying with Wolsey Hall for the past 3 years, taking IGCSE History in the first year for which I gained an A* and then A level History and English Literature in the last two, both of which i achieved high A grades in at the AS exam sitting in the Autumn. I have really enjoyed studying with Wolsey - the course material is engaging and very accessible, the tutors are incredibly helpful and the feedback/advice is excellent. I would definitely highly recommend studying with Wolsey.

We've been using the services of Wolsey Hall Oxford...
We've been using the services of Wolsey Hall Oxford for a year or so now and the students who have worked through the courses have all enjoyed the experience. The Wolsey Hall Oxford online courses with tutor support and feedback allow our students to take courses that are not able to fit within our school timetable. This gives students the flexibility of choosing courses at school and online. The students who have been taking the online options have well developed independent learning skills and are self regulated, motivated learners. The quality and structure of each IGCSE course is excellent and the feedback from tutors after assignment submission is always details and constructive. As a school principal, my priority is to ensure that our students have the best possible opportunities to learn and receive the best in course instruction and feedback. As a father, I have been pleased that my own daughter has taken a Wolsey Hall Oxford course. This option enabled her to take an IGCSE course that did not fit the school timetable. I've been really impressed with the way in which she has progressed through the course and she has been so happy to receive constructive and positive feedback. According to my daughter, she loves Wolsey Hall Oxford because the tutors are so supportive, response times to assignment submissions and questions are excellent, great quality learning resources are provided, and student progress is monitored closely and carefully.
