Through this course, students will:

  • Develop strong analytical and communication skills and an environmental awareness.
  • Get transferable skills for subjects like biology, chemistry and geography.
  • Open pathways to a wide range of degrees and careers, including marine ecology, environmental science, climate science and molecular biology.

Additional information

Study method: A self-directed mix of online and offline learning with structured multimedia content. You will be supported throughout your studies with expert Tutor feedback as well as guidance from a dedicated Student Progress Manager. Please note this course can also be taken as a standalone AS Level qualification.

This course also involves a significant amount of practical work, including one trip to a shoreline (with all necessary risk assessments in place). The syllabus requires practical activities in preparation for the data-handling and investigative skills papers for both AS and AL. We will be providing instructions for students to carry out most of the required practicals with video demonstrations. Where we feel it would not be advisable for students to carry out a particular practical, we will be providing them with a simulation.

Please note: This course will be available from September 2026.
