Ages 4-7 (Lower Primary) Courses

Lower Primary courses

Wolsey Hall’s Lower Primary homeschooling courses begin with our Getting Ready for Year 1 English and Maths courses.  These are typically taken by children aged 4 and 5.

Our Year 1 and 2 courses cover the English National Curriculum and provide a strong foundation for students to move on to Upper Primary. There they will start to develop their skills as independent learners.

The courses are a partnership between you, your child and the Wolsey Hall team. They reflect our philosophy that learning should be enjoyed, and you will work closely with your child and their tutors using easy-to-follow lesson plans.

Our Tutors will support you throughout the courses. Your child will submit assignments regularly and their Tutors will provide detailed and encouraging feedback. You are invited to have a video call with them following each assignment and you will receive progress reports for each subject every three months.

Our Lower Primary homeschooling courses for ages 4-7 provide a strong foundation for children to move up to Upper Primary.

Meet Maeva Primary year 1 and Mum Severine

We can’t begin to thank you enough for everything! We started this journey with a lot of trepidation and uncertainty. Not knowing anyone personally who has actually homeschooled their children made the entire experience all the more daunting. However, we found the structure and content of work at Wolsey Hall very straightforward and easy to follow. This entire experience has made Haroon take ownership of his learning and be a lot more involved in his studies. This journey was definitely made a lot easier by having you as our Progress Manager! The communication on your side has always been fantastic and you’ve always been so prompt with your replies which made everything so much easier!

Our experience with Wolsey Hall Oxford has been excellent! Ella is thriving on her Primary homeschooling courses. She is enjoying the creativeness of the English programme and how it allows learning while bringing in her own interests such as a biography on her favourite author.

The Wolsey Hall approach to reading and phonics is especially well designed. Wolsey approaches learning letter sounds in “layers”. This has made it possible for our daughter to learn to read in a matter of weeks without being overwhelmed. We find it remarkable that our 4 year old daughter is reading small books all on her own with confidence and enjoying it very much.

We joined Wolsey Hall Oxford in Years 3 and 4 and our childrens’ quality of education has improved dramatically. We are deeply impressed with the curriculum, the superb Tutors, the Director of Studies and our constantly available Student Progress Manager. We simply could have not taken a better decision for our childrens’ education; their knowledge and confidence have been transformed in the space of a few months. We live in London and are the first ones in our group of friends, neighbours and professional network to take the decision of homeschooling. What at the time felt like a very brave move socially, it is now totally normal to us and those around us. We have made a very successful transition with the old classmates into solid friends, they often drop in by our house after school, and have created many more new friendships through other activities. Our children are now more social than ever! We keep normal school hours in the morning and early afternoon, and fill-in the later afternoon with playdates and group activities, like art, guitar, dance and drama lessons, choir rehearsals and sports. My husband and I are also enjoying how much more compatible a flexible schooling schedule is with our professional lives, particularly around travelling. We still have to pinch ourselves that such flexibility is possible while our children get the very best education we could dream of.

Zacharias really wants to read. He keeps showing up with books pointing at words and letters. He also starts writing by himself things he names. Like his famous dinosaurs. It isn't the correct spelling, but he gets closer and closer to it. Something we as parents have been waiting for a long time. Once he can read and write, the world is his.

My daughter’s reading has improved so much, that I’m amazed daily how well she can read. I really like the way the course is designed to teach phonics and graphemes. It gives my daughter confidence to try herself to write new words. She does not ask me anymore for help.
