Celebrating 100 Years of Nelson Mandela

18 July 2018 marked what would have been the 100th birthday of our former student, Nelson Mandela. He was remembered for his great courage and peaceful spirit around the world.

Alumni – Sir Harold Evans

Sir Harold Evans was a British-born journalist and writer who was editor of The Sunday Times from 1967 to 1981. Evans, whilst in the RAF at the end of WW2, was inspired by other airmen to study economics by correspondence course with Wolsey Hall Oxford.

George Chambers Prime Minister, Trinidad & Tobago

George Chambers, 1928-1997, was the second Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.   Born in Port-of-Spain, George Chambers was proud that his education included a GCE correspondence course from Wolsey Hall Oxford.

Correspondence Education – Alumnus Dr AB Assensoh

Dr. A.B. Assensoh studied with Wolsey Hall Oxford via correspondence education. Education has continued to play a significant role in Dr. Assensoh’s life – he taught for 16 years at Indiana University as a tenured professor, and is now a Professor Emeritus at the University of Oregon.

Alumnus Griffin St Hilaire – The UN

Wolsey Hall alumnus, Griffin St Hilaire, remembers what studying with Wolsey Hall was like before the advent of the Internet. Griffin took courses in A Level Economics and Accounting with Wolsey Hall in 1982, whilst continuing to work as a high school teacher in his home country of Dominica, West Indies. Today Griffin works for the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland
