The importance of childhood nutrition

In order for children to be the best versions of themselves a healthy and nutritious diet is paramount. This is not anything new, but it is a good reminder, especially when it comes to learning. Whether your child is not big on breakfast, often skips meals, has too much of a sweet tooth or their food choices lack variety when it comes to what they fuel themselves with, we have a few ideas to share to encourage them to remember that you are what you eat.

Wolsey Hall Oxford homeschooling: more than just studies…

At Wolsey Hall Oxford we believe in balance, which is why our homeschooling courses offer an array of supplementary activities to keep children engaged and connected.

How to raise creative children

As our children grow up, we tend to have a preconceived idea of skills that we need to teach them: how to tell the time, how to tie their shoelaces, how to ride a bicycle, why it’s important to be kind and respectful to others, how to wash the dishes and so forth. What isn’t always made top priority is how to encourage their creative side. And creativity is not limited to artistic skills like painting, writing and decorating a cake – it also relates to problem-solving, an ability that will help them countless times in life.

School refusal anxiety and homeschooling

School phobia anxiety – also referred to as school refusal anxiety – is an increasing affliction. Before the pandemic, it was already a growing concern, but the impact of Covid-19 seems to have exacerbated children’s desire not to attend school.

The importance of Mandela Day

Every year people around the world are encouraged to spend 67 minutes doing something to help others. Just over an hour of your time is an easy yet significant way to do good – something that seems manageable for even those who have little time on their hands. The number 67 signifies the years that Nelson Mandela spent as a public servant.

Homeschooling and socialisation

A substantial amount of studies and reports into homeschooling and socialisation have been conducted in recent years, many finding that homeschooled children are often better socialised than those attending mainstream school as their interaction is not limited to children of the same age, same level of education and same demographic. Due to the flexibility of their timetable, homeschooled children are often able to participate in more extra-curricular activities on a more regular basis.

Exams for homeschoolers

GCSEs at home

Can you take GCSEs early?

Tarun has been doing Year 7 and 8 English, Maths and Science with Wolsey Hall. He is enjoying his courses and loves the flexibility the whole homeschooling program brings. He is able to plan his learning at his own pace, and plan his day well to accommodate his other interests of playing the Violin and Piano, reading and playing games. The online material in terms of textbooks, videos, the course plan and support from his tutors is helping him get past his studies with ease. During the peak Covid times when amazon deliveries were stopped the online virtual library of Wolsey was a boon to him as he loves to read.

Deepali Patel, Secondary Parent

I must say enrolling Nicole at Wolsey Hall has been one of the best decisions we ever made. At school, Nicole's progress remained extremely limited due to lack of support with her learning difficulties. Since being at Wolsey, Nicole's English has come on leaps and bounds, from her spelling, to grammar, to organisation and formats of essays. The amount of time and support Nicole's tutors, Pat and Michelle have invested in Nicole has been fantastic. Nicole's academic knowledge and confidence has soared since being at Wolsey and I am extremely grateful to you all. (Nicole has segmatic pragmatic disorder high functioning autism, as well as suspected dyslexia).
