The benefits of studying Lower Secondary English
By studying our Lower Secondary English homeschooling course (English National Curriculum Key Stage 3), your child will develop the skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing that they will need for study at IGCSE and beyond. Your child will learn to express themselves creatively and imaginatively and to communicate with others confidently and effectively. Students will be assessed in all four skills in each course. For an example of a speaking assignment, please see the course sample below.
At the end of Year 9 of Lower Secondary English you will receive a report on your child’s progress. A report on the average grade achieved by your child at the end of Years 7 or 8 is available on request.

The syllabus and hours of study
- Our Lower Secondary English Homeschooling course assumes that your child has completed Primary English (Key Stage 2) to a good standard.
- The course follows the English National Curriculum for Key Stage 3 English.
- Allow for up to 4 – 5 hours per week of’ study time for your child to complete each year of Lower Secondary English plus additional time for completing assignments.
- We find that most children can complete the course in 9 months.

Lower Secondary Maths
Our Secondary Maths homeschooling course will help your child get the key building blocks for Maths in place. Mathematics equips your child with uniquely powerful ways to describe, analyse and change the world. It can stimulate moments of pleasure and satisfaction when they solve a problem for the first time, discover a more elegant solution, or notice hidden connections. Students with a solid understanding of maths are able to think independently in applied and abstract ways, and can reason, solve problems and assess risk.
Lower Secondary French
Studying our Secondary French Homeschooling course (English National Curriculum Key Stage 3) is an ideal preparation for IGCSE French studies. Communicating in French will help your child get to know the French people and the French culture. Learning another language, such as French, will open your child’s mind to new ideas and new ways of looking at the world.
Lower Secondary Science
Our Secondary Science homeschooling course will fire your child’s curiosity about phenomena in the world around them and offer them opportunities to find explanations. It will engage them at many levels, linking direct practical experience with scientific ideas. Experimentation and modelling are used to develop and evaluate explanations, encouraging critical and creative thought.
Lower Secondary Geography
The study of our Secondary Geography homeschooling course (English National curriculum Key Stage 3) helps young people make sense of a complex and dynamically changing world. It builds on your child’s own experiences to enable them to investigate places at all scales, from the personal to the global.

We made a giant leap just over a year ago when we decided to enrol our 11 year old daughter in Year 7 with Wolsey Hall. We had no idea what to expect and were quite apprehensive. She has just started Year 8 with Wolsey Hall as we were so blown away with how her first year went. The quality of teaching is exceptional, the work is interesting and perfect in terms of quantity and variety. The system is so easy to use and everyone we deal with is lovely, knowledgable and professional. I honestly cannot find one negative and I recommend Wolsey Hall to anyone considering home schooling (it actually made me want to start my school journey again – and that’s saying something!).

I cannot believe we are only two weeks away from finishing our first school year of homeschooling! We made the decision to take our youngest out of school back in September and it has simply been the best decision. We started five courses with Wolsey Hall in November as we wanted to make sure we are giving her the skills she needs for lifelong opportunities and a broad range of learning experiences. These courses have definitely provided that along with the ability to be flexible to her needs and a whole lot of fun. As our eldest is still in school for now we ‘needed’ to be able to follow the school term times. I was a little worried that starting so late in the term we would never catch up. The amount of pressure we put ourselves under for a self imposed deadline is insane really! And how here we are, two weeks to go on Maths and English. She had actually finished Science, History and Computing already. This week’s focus in English has been poetry, in particular sky art. So today we took our learning outside for some inspiration. I’m loving the freedom that our curriculum gives us to truly personalise our education as well as the freedom to enjoy time as a family without penalties. We have learnt so much as a family about how much life we can experience and learn from outside the confines of the traditional model. Isn’t it funny how much we let tradition and social expectations dictate our lives. I am so grateful that I have the opportunity to raise my children to thrive and shrine.
